Below are the published stats for abortion rates in 2019. 97.7% (actual number 196,083) were performed under Ground C (see below) which seems to me to be abortion on demand. If you doubt these figures look in the. Govuk website for all the grounds. I thought it might be too long to post but will on request.
I am not anti abortion but with all the first rate contraceptive available why are so many unwanted pregnancies occurring? If you take out rape and incest pregnancies are you still in favour of killing so many innocent babies?
Abortion numbers by grounds:
0% (actual number 145) abortions were performed under ground A or B.
97.7% (actual number 196,083) abortions were performed under ground C.
0.6% (actual number 1,104) abortions were performed under ground D.
1.6% (actual number 3,269) abortions were performed under ground E.
0% (actual number 7) abortions were performed under grounds F or G.
The vast majority (99.9%) of abortions carried out under ground C alone were reported as being performed because of a risk to the woman’s mental health.
Ground C:
the pregnancy has not exceeded its twenty-fourth week and that the continuance of the pregnancy would involve risk, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated, of injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman (section 1(1)(a))

Abortion can never be used as contraception. You know because contraception by definition prevents a pregnancy.
A whole lot of women made decisions about their bodies Safely and with medical guidance. Unless your uterus was involved in that it has nothing to do with anyone.

Very late abortions are most definitely babies.
There are many preemies born at 23 weeks. Many survive and thrive. Our cut off is 24 weeks.
The earliest born that is alive and well today came into the world at under 22 weeks

No I am not shocked. Those mothers made a harrowing decision. Did you know all the health complications associated with cleft pallets or did you just straight up jump to condemnation?
You are horrible. You are judging and sticking your nose in the air saying oh not me doesn’t make you any less judgmental.
Who cares if women are risqué sex. It’s their bodies. They are being responsible by not bringing unwanted children into the world. Good for them! More people should think like them not judge them.

Cleft palate can be associated with other malformations that may cause someone to decide a TOP is the right option.
As for birth control, have you tried to access it lately, MrsHappy? Even before the shut down, Family Planning clinics have been closed down.
It’s well-nigh impossible to get a GP appointment for BC. Surgeries aren’t open at convenient times, women may not have transport available to them. My own daughter, who is a doctor, finds it hard to get a repeat prescription for her pill so how hard it must be for others less advantaged, I hate to think.
And how about men? They have a part to play, too. Why aren’t they using condoms?
No doubt if abortions weren’t available people would then complain about feckless women with six, seven or eight children and what a drain on the State they are, whilst ignoring the toll of women who died from illegal abortions.
It's possible that limiting child benefit to two children might also have something to with it.

of abortions, but we don’t know what percentage of the sexually active female population it refers to which is relevant since the population of this country has been continually rising.
For example if you talk in terms of numbers only, they can’t be usefully compared with a decade ago. For a good while now there have been more people coming to live in the UK than emigrating and many are young.
SueDonim, I agree with your comment about the difficulties some black women have in accessing contraception and other medical support. I hope you didn't think I was supporting the OPs comment, which I saw as a being particularly critical of black women.
This seems increasingly to be a ProLife attack on any woman who finds herself in the difficult position of an unplanned pregnancy. Even more difficult, decisions at that early stage about the level of potentially life threatening disability.

BTW Cleft palate can be a sign of serious syndromes affecting mental and physical development. A friend of mine had a child with a mild cleft palate. It was picked up in one of her routine scans and she then went on to have further tests, which fortunately ruled out the other syndromes.

My GD who lives with me and looks after me was born with an horrendous cleft lip and palate.
The thought that that she may have been aborted fills me with absolute horror.
Mrs Happy cn I suggest you do some research into what happened before abortion was made legal. I suggest you begin with the film Vera Drake. There were hundreds if not thousands of illegal back street abortions, women died because of them. Of course if you were rich you could have an operation discreetly in a private clinic. Women have always had abortions, they will always have abortions all we can do as a civilised society is to make sure they are done safely and the woman is well supported. And accusing them of killing babies is not supportive or helpful.
annsixty My friend felt the same and her daughter went on to have an operation and, apart from a small scar, is absolutely fine.
However, there are a couple of conditions (I guess they can be Googled), where a cleft lip/palate is a sign of something much more serious, involving physical and mental disability. That's why my friend had further tests.

Every baby deserves be wanted and loved - sadly this is never going to be true of every case, and if abortions were more restricted I dare say there would be more who weren’t wanted.
I know a few people who have agonised over the decision, and felt sad and guilty about it for many years afterwards.
I know of others who’ve had an abortion with barely a second thought, inc. one who aborted simply because the baby was the ‘wrong’ sex. Hearing about that did appal me, but maybe it was still preferable to having a baby that wasn’t wanted. In any case, I would still defend a mother’s right to choos.
I’m still haunted by a birth announcement in the paper many years ago: ‘To X and Y, a fifth and final daughter.’
Just that.
No prizes for guessing how at least one parent felt about that poor little baby. I’ve often thought about her.
