@notanan Quoting 'normal' weekly death rate is a completely spurious argument. According to the Office of National Statistics (primary source) there have been deaths in excess of the 'normal' weekly 1400 in England and Wales to the tune of some 50,000+ since mid March to early May. 'Excess deaths' were running at 10,000+ for some weeks.
Comparisons of 'excess deaths' with those of other countries show us to be among the world leaders in this field. How you can spin this as being the helpless victims of a 'smart' virus is, quite frankly, breathtaking. It's as though we just have to take it on the chin because we're totally outwitted by it.
I suppose, in view of the fact that other countries have contained its spread and effects more effectively, we've just been subjected to a more virulent, smarter version. Oh, and of course, other countries, being full of cheating foreigners, lie about their figures, don't they?
