Whether the wider labour movement retains its one hundred year support of the Parliamentary Party will be the major crisis facing Starmer in the months following the end of this current crisis.

Should that retention happen then getting trade union members who pay the political levy to continue that affiliation will then be a considerable further problem?

I believe that the re-submission of political levy affiliation forms is due to take place later this year. In that, it has to be remembered that in 2016, which was the last time that affiliation had to take place, the Unite Union gained the permission of eighty-five percent of its one and half million members to pay the political levy with other unions also gaining high results.

Lay activists in those unions placed huge effort into the above campaign, but I feel that same effort will not be forthcoming in the impending affiliation campaign.

Certainly, the reports of Labour party employees within Central Office working against the Labour Party winning the 2017 general election due to Corbyn being the leader will have "knocked the stuffing" out of very many activists in the wider Labour movement in regard to once more campaigning in support of retaining backing for this shambles of a Parliamentary Labour Party

Gagajo I personally never hated JC and have stated as much on this forum before. However, I didn’t agree with his policies.

Possibly because labour has been a total and absolute shambles with no decent candidates to offer, constantly bickering and betraying each other in public.

Keir Starmer who was involved in disgracing so many innocent men because he was unable or unwilling to recognise a fantasist and, despite all his promises to work with the govt in the current crisis, is doing the opposite and undermining the good work of the last weeks of isolation.

My feeling at this point in time are that the trades unions and all other affiliated organisations within the broader Labour movement should "pull the plug" on this existing excuse for a Parliamentary Labour party and place its efforts into the inception of a fresh political left-leaning party from within the TUC.

I agree Sussexborn he's now urging the Gov. to publish it's exit from the lock down strategy. When he was elected leader he was all about working with the Gov. for the good of the country.

I was wondering when I heard what he had to say this morning, why the labour party weren't offering to work with the Gov. on an exit strategy, and then it dawned on me. If heaven forbid the exit strategy that's implemented goes wrong, if Labour haven't had a say in it, they'l be able to pin all the blame on the Gov.

I’ve voted for various parties over the years but not labour. I thought Starmer might be a good thing for the country as a decent opposition is vital but Starmer is already proving a huge disappointment.

I think that unless people are spoon fed information, they assume that nothing is happening.

Starmer attends the cobra meeting every week, he is constantly talking to the various government ministers, but he said at the start of his leadership, that he would be constructively critical as a good leader of any opposition should be.

So looking at what and how we are going to end this lockdown.

The problem is that we know that the government woefully lacked appropriate planning for the first 2 -3 months of the year, and all that Starmer is trying to encourage them to do is not to repeat the same mistake aS we come out of lockdown . That planning will assist the government to consider the pitfalls and upsides.

Seems eminently sensible to me.

Another area that is being looked at is by Miliband and the way the loan scheme is working, he has sent letters to the government to advise on the issue because it has is not working as intended and giving examples of the best way forward and how it can been tweaked.

I cannot see absolutely why a period in the history of the Labour Party should be confined to the dusty archives, especially when the previous leader is still a serving MP.

Callistemon in regard to your post @13:54 today, it should not be just one period in the history of the Labour Party that should be consigned to the dusty archives, but the whole shambles of this present Parliamentary Labour Party.

Any party that has persons employed within it that work to stop that party from winning elections because they will not accept the overwhelming election of its leader deserves nothing else short of being consigned to history.

If it's another two weeks until we hit the peak, that's probably another month of lockdown (this time). The next peak will perhaps be in the autumn, with further lockdown in winter. That will be hard to endure.

I’m waiting to hear the outcome grandad - frankly I’m finding the whole thing tiresome to say the least. Starmer is commissioning an independent body to deal with the matter ASAP.
I shall come to a considered opinion once the matter has been dealt with by this body. Until then it seems a sterile activity to keep on and on. Rather like the antisemitism issue. My opinion is - deal with it, find out the truth of the matter and sort it. End of.

Much of the media are now reporting the matter of how employees in the Labour Party Central Office worked to prevent Labour winning the 2017 General Election because they did not accept the election of its leader.

Those who will not condemn that action cannot state they are democratic in their views or in support of the Labour movement and cause.
