She’s stepping down, no matter who is selected as the next leader of the Labour Party.

I think it’s a vote catcher quite honestly.

I suppose it's the same for any politician trisher; people focus on their failings and the negatives in the political careers. But I think it's completely unacceptable to focus entirely on DA's skin colour as the reason for any criticism that, in itself, is racist and should be condemned. If skin colour was the only criticism, then Paul Boateng; Bernie Grant; Asshok Kumar and Keith Vaz would also have been criticised. But they haven't. Because they have done their jobs to an acceptable level and have earned some respect.

Diane Abbott, 30+ years ago supported the IRA.

I've got the same amount of respect for Boris...

At least Boris can pop a pair of shoes on his feet.

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 18:56:51

Not you trisher obvs

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 18:56:21

And on and on and on

trisher Mon 24-Feb-20 18:54:55

But when there are real positives to applaud Chewbacca why wouldn't someone acknowledge those? Why dwell on the mistakes? Unless there is deep seated prejudice that stops you seeing any worth at all.

Dianne Abbotts health has been a point of discussion for a few years now and I indicated back then if Dianne Abbott is ill and under stress because of her job then the Labour Party had a duty of care to protect her.

She is still carrying out her duties as Shadow Home Secretary years later so the only presumption is she has been well enough to the job.

As Shadow Home Secretary we are talking of one of the most responsible positions in the Shadow Cabinet and if she has been known to be unwell what does it say about the Labour Party keeping her in such a prestigious position.

Dianne Abbott said :-

' I will be stepping down because I think that the new leader, they have to be able to construct their own shadow cabinet.'

Irrespective of what is said the fact is Dianne Abbott has like Theresa May, Lyndsey Hoyle et al has been able to

The colour of DA's skin has nothing to do with her recent ineptitude or past hypocrisy, it's the performance and integrity that she is being criticised for, nothing else. Let's get that straight. You have been the only one to continually raise her colour souziee, and you're wrong to do that. She is a politician who's performance has been criticised, just like many other politicians, male or female.

trisher Mon 24-Feb-20 18:38:44

She is and like any real genuine person she makes mistakes. I would like everyone posting negative comments on here to consider very carefully if they would be saying the same things about a white male politician, because I don't think they would and I suspect deep seated unacknowledged racism is at the bottom of much of this stuff. Even if you are a dedicated Tory you should be able to recognise her acheivements. Even if she had failures in recent history you should be able to acknowledge her previous work.

£10,000…pounds a year. The fees of the posh City of London school where she sent son James. She had previously attacked fellow Labour MPs Tony Blair and Harriet Harman for sending their children to selective schools.

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 18:31:44

But sadly Fennel she’s black and left wing and somfair game for the steel toe capped brigade.

Fennel Mon 24-Feb-20 18:30:15

Trisher - your post of 17,36.
Well expressed.
She's genuine.

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 18:23:48

And on and in and on as depths of stupidity and inanity are plumbed beyond any ones wildest imaginings.

ananimous Mon 24-Feb-20 18:06:24

Oh no don't tell the spelling police. *performance

ananimous Mon 24-Feb-20 18:04:59

30 whole pence?

ananimous Mon 24-Feb-20 18:04:27

Diane Abbott blamed the media for reporting on her disastrous performace on LBC, in which she suggested police officers could be paid 30 pence a year.

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 18:00:34

trisher we are both wasting out time.

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 17:59:00

And Chew if you actually read my posts on this thread you’d see that they are basically about the nastiness of starting this thread in the first place and the motive for the pile on on a black left wing woman who has faced awful abuse and is going through a bad time health and family wise at the moment. What delight do her critics get from this thread? What insight? What difference does it make?

Taken from Jack Monroe's blog. Something for all those belittling her to think about
Diane was first elected as an MP in 1987, the year before I was born. She has been dedicated to serving the British public for longer than I have even been alive. Hold that thought. Understand it.
Diane was the first black woman to have a seat in the House of Commons. She MADE HISTORY. Her father was welder, her mother a nurse. How many working class kids do we have in politics these days? None, really.
Diane went to Cambridge University to study history. IN THE SEVENTIES. In 2017 only 15 black kids went to Cambridge.
Diane worked for the Home Office in 1976. She was so smart they put her on a course to fast-track her career.
Diane was Race Relations Officer at the National Council for Civil Liberties from 1978 to 1980.
Diane was a TV researcher and reporter from 1978 to 1985. I know a lot of those. They’re fast thinkers, avid fact hounds, brilliant minds.
Diane’s political career began in 1982, on Westminster City Council. Then in 1987, I’ll say it again, she became the first black female MP.
In 2008, her speech on civil liberties in the counterterrorism debate won Parliamentary Speech Of The Year in the Spectator awards.
She founded the Black Child initiative, to raise educational achievements among black kids. She shared her platform.
She’s been the Shadow Minister for Public health, working tirelessly to tackle Tory cuts to children’s services, maternity care, all of it.
In September 2011, the Telegraph called her ‘one of Labours best frontbench performers’. The same Telegraph now monsters her for clicks.
Diane was one of 16 MPs to write to Miliband in 2015 asking him to commit to opposing further austerity measures. She did that for all of us. Diane was one of a tiny handful of MPs to defy the Labour whip and vote AGAINST Tory austerity cuts. Those cuts are KILLING people.
Diane has consistently voted against a reduction in spending on benefits. She has consistently voted for and campaigned for higher benefits over longer periods for people unable to work due to illness/disability.
In March she raised the issue of cuts to domestic violence services, in the House of Commons: “women and children are turned away daily”.

Y'know Meghan would say: "The goal is to focus on what connects us, rather than divides us"

grin

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 17:52:43

How jolly awfully lucky that there’s. no hypocrisy among Tory MPs - jolly jolly good.

suziewoozie Mon 24-Feb-20 17:51:25

And on and on and on and on and on and on

Chewbacca Mon 24-Feb-20 17:50:48

Does the phrase ‘broken record’ come to mind?

Yes, it does. Usually when your disagreeing with other people's opinions suozie.

As for Diane Abbott, I'm another that struggles to reconcile hypocrisy with being a good MP, as I struggled with Blair too.

NanKate Mon 24-Feb-20 17:50:02

Excellent news IMO. ?

Fennel Mon 24-Feb-20 17:41:29

Who would want to be a politician? You can't win.
I suppose it's fame and fortune at first, but that never lasts.
