Mine use a combination of media to view their programmes - probably because we appear to have a squillion devices and platforms so they and DH can watch eleventy billion hours of rubbish per week between them.

Yes, Sir C- they find it very strange that we switch on BBC1 or ITV, and watch without Netflix, streaming, etc, etc.

I didn't watch TV news when I was young.
I listened to the radio but avoided TV other than Top of the Pops.
It drove my mum mad that I wouldn't sit and watch with them but I wasn't interested.
I don't think young people do make a point of watching TV news.

All ours watch tv....they ask me if I have seen certain programmes, and ta dah! Have seen them watching tv with my own eyes. The teenage DGS loves tv ( normal channels.)

I fail to see how the younger generation watch TV or not (and I would agree about Netflix or the occasional Britbox “binge” ) bears any relation to whether or not Meghan inspires the younger generation. ??
I think Harry might but other than that the younger among us are entirely ambivalent about the Royals.
BTW we do need to be clear what we mean about “younger generation” - the children at the Dagenham school - 11-16 or our AC perhaps in their 40’s or 50’s .

Maw- the discussion about TV is related to who watched the Service this afternoon on TV- and whether they particularly cared about whether someone wore navy or whatever colour- and was was behind whom, etc.

My six year old granddaughter loves princesses though, but would be most disappointed to notice that not a single one of them was wearing a crown. In fact she would think they simply weren’t up to the job without a crown.

I think The ladies in the royal family can wear whatever colours they want. But earlier in this thread posters were saying that Meghan Was blatantly breaking royal protocol by wearing dark colours to other events with members of the royal family. So it is interesting that Camilla is praised for how lovely she looks in navy.

In my opinion none of the royals inspire young people. Of course if their school is picked to be visited, or provide some service to a royal, then the teachers would big up the event and importance to the children and therefore they would respond. It’s possible that Prince Harry’s service in the Armed Forces might have inspired a few to join up, but that’s about all. Why would the Queen, W+C, Sophie, PC+C, or Meghan inspire young people? Inspire them to do what?

School age kids get taken out of classes and given union jacks to wabve when "royals" come to town,I have complained about and kept my children off school because of it.Its indoctrination ,subtle but it is .Those crowds of happy children are happy to get out of the classroom thats all
