Oh dear.

Tracy Brabin, aged 58y, Labour MP for Batley, ex ‘Corrie’ soap actress wore this yesterday in the HoC.

I was embarrassed on her behalf. What do you think about her choice of outfit for work?

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 13:50:10

Aw Chestnut bit of sour grapes there methinks. Not getting it all your own way. Too many rational points being made for the pearl clutches to demolish?

Dottynan Wed 05-Feb-20 13:47:56

I know what she was wearing in the House of Commons yesterday but I don't have a clue what she was talking about

Joelsnan Wed 05-Feb-20 13:46:11

chestnut
Exactly what I was thinking ?

Chestnut Wed 05-Feb-20 13:43:16

Let's keep diverting the topic of this thread to bashing Boris and the Tories instead (even though that's already in full swing on other threads) ??

annep1 Wed 05-Feb-20 13:41:01

Like it or not I think it would distract people from listening to what she is saying. Not appropriate for work.

I personally don't like this style. Nor one sleeve styles. One shoulder cold and one warm??

Nezumi65 Wed 05-Feb-20 13:22:23

I’m not fussed about a bit of shoulder. This is like the frothing over Meghan showing some shoulder (but not Kate A that was okay)

Far more concerned about the topic she was talking about. That is something worth getting riled about.

Chewbacca Wed 05-Feb-20 13:14:51

There is a difference between thinking someone looks good or bad in an outfit and saying it
isn't a suitable thing to wear. The leather trousers didn't look good and the dress didn't fit. I'm not sure this dress looks good, but that doesn't mean I think she shouldn't wear it.

Really trisher? So you're happy to slate TM for her style of dress whilst she was on holiday and therefore "off duty", but TB turning up to work in a badly designed, ill fitting dress that falls off her and shows waaaay too much flesh is not to be discussed? Okaaay then....hmmconfused double standards somewhere

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 13:05:59

And the behaviour from the Tories this week has been professional??

3nanny6 Wed 05-Feb-20 13:05:07

/Why not wear a tailored jacket over the top of that dress?

If she was going for dinner at restaurant or cocktails later on in the day then just take the jacket off. This did not give out the message of showing a professional approach in the workplace.

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 13:04:56

And all the right wingers working themselves up into a frenzy about a shoulder shock as they demean other women's dress choices and attempt to detract from the real shocking news of the week. Yes, predictable it is.

Chestnut Wed 05-Feb-20 13:01:45

This thread is so predictable, with all the lefties defending this woman and trying to divert attention away from her and over to the terrible Tories. ???
The subject is the woman's dress code, which is inappropriate for office work, let alone the HoC. But I'm sure she's feeling very pleased with herself getting this moment in the spotlight, even if it is for all the wrong reasons.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 05-Feb-20 13:00:30

I am at the point that any MP can wear whatever they like, I would just like to see them do their job and be accountable.

trisher Wed 05-Feb-20 12:57:38

Could we have a thread about which male MP we would like to see in shorts & t-shirt? There can't be that many. Woops is that sexist? blush

Parsley3 Wed 05-Feb-20 12:37:57

We should be glad that our MPs are such a diverse bunch of individuals. Some chose to have a makeover and lose the glasses, some choose to dress like Lord Snooty from the Beano, some choose a Ken Dodd hairstyle, some choose the tweedy crofter look, some choose the shabby Grandad outfit.
Baring a shoulder may well catch on. I would have been thrilled if it had revealed a controversial tattoo as well.
Love it!

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 12:32:56

Oh my goodness - yes, such a serious topic and there was her showing <gasp> a shoulder. If you seriously think that's what the young things wear to nightclubs these days JE you're in for an even greater shock grin

I'm saving my concerns about approriateness of behaviour for the really big hitters at No 10 and their puppet masters. Now that really is shocking.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 12:30:00

And today TB can choose to dress more appropriately but BJ and DC will still be anti democratic little idiots

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 12:13:04

What a very very naughty girl she was JE much much naughtier than banning certain journalists from press briefings. I’m shocked I tell you, shocked ???

JenniferEccles Wed 05-Feb-20 12:03:47

It was a very serious and important topic she was discussing which made her ‘nightclub’ type outfit all the more inappropriate.

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 11:52:56

My goodness - how to rile the easily riled of GN! I expected to see certain names on here working themselves into a froth of righteous indignation and they didn’t disappoint.

A female Labour politician of nearly sixty showing her shoulder shock She’s handed it to you on a plate and you’re enjoying every mouthful grin

vampirequeen Wed 05-Feb-20 11:52:30

Surely we've moved passed a woman having to justify her clothing choices. Judge the woman on how she does her job not on what she wears. Do you judge men in this way? Johnson's suits never seem to fit properly. Are we going to criticise him for not buying the proper size?

trisher Wed 05-Feb-20 11:49:39

ExD1938 I would imagine the heating costs are substantially less than the cost of the subsidised food and booze available to MPs.

Ilovecheese Wed 05-Feb-20 11:45:35

And are the posters objecting to Tracy Brabin's dress the same ones who defended Jacob Reece Mogg for lounging about on the green benches.

The fuss about this dress is just a deflection away from what she was saying about some members of the press being banned from reporting a Government briefing. Now that IS a serious matter that is worthy of comment.

ExD1938 Wed 05-Feb-20 11:43:04

I just wish one male would have the guts to turn up with one shoulder on display, just to hear the comments.
The commons chamber must be massively overheated if she can wear a dress like that without being covered in goose pimples - how many of us can afford to heat our houses to this degree?

Ilovecheese Wed 05-Feb-20 11:41:09

Very sensible post dizzyblonde, but so many gransnetters would just rather pile in with criticism of another woman, especially an attractive woman.

Ilovecheese Wed 05-Feb-20 11:37:48

Dianne Abbott photo was photoshopped, as would have been obvious to anyone who looked at it properly.
