Oh dear.

Tracy Brabin, aged 58y, Labour MP for Batley, ex ‘Corrie’ soap actress wore this yesterday in the HoC.

I was embarrassed on her behalf. What do you think about her choice of outfit for work?

But how can it be a mistake suziewoozie unless she dressed in the dark and grabbed the last thing she wore the previous night. She knew what she was doing.

lemongrove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:31:36

Yes, a mistake, and likely one that she won’t be repeating.
If there hadn’t been criticism of it though, she may have appeared in similar clothes again.
Tbh I can’t see how it even happened once, or why.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 14:28:35

Not accurate lemon this thread has been about misogyny and drawing utterly baseless pathetic inferences as to her as a person from the wearing of one bloody dress. FFS. RTFT.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 14:26:51

Your post was quite good lemon until the last bit - given her track record in not usually dressing like that, the dress says ‘ I made one mistake ‘ .

lemongrove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:26:09

sooziewoozie the subject of this thread is about a female MP being dressed inappropriately, nothing else.If it’s too frivolous a subject for you, find a weightier one, or start a thread on something else.

jo1book Wed 05-Feb-20 14:25:41

Shadow Culture Sec.? I take it that is Low culture?

lemongrove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:23:08

I would say it’s totally inappropriate for a HOC environment
(Work!)
I say nothing about her character, because that doesn’t come into it, ......it’s a dress issue only.
If a male MP appeared say, in a black mesh tshirt, I would think just the same.
As we all know, women in any workplace have always to prove themselves more than men. What does a dress/top like that say? It doesn’t say ‘ I am a serious politician’ that’s for sure.

Summerlove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:23:01

Why can’t women go naked in summer or at least bare chested the way men can? Because men find it distracting.

But it’s completely OK for men to be shirtless.

If you look around the world, some places actually have passed laws saying that it is legal for women to go shirtless if they choose.

As far as going to work in shorts and T-shirts? As long as there isn’t a dress code, then why not.

How is it infantilising women?

This is the same argument that America is having over the Super Bowl. It was fine last year for the male performer to be half naked, but the women performers who performed this year and were covered are being slated for being slutty and inappropriate and the antithesis of family values.

But again, the rules are different for women and men apparently.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 14:22:25

Gosh Chestnut your posts really are getting desperate . Bottom of barrel being scraped much . Frankly I think she should be locked up for wearing the dress. BTW does anyone know where the Russia Report is and what’s happening to that enquiry into BJ and JA? Sorry sorry sorry...... back to the dress. Nearly got diverted there into matters of no consequence. Silly me

Summerlove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:19:08

So many women with completely misogynistic views.

No wonder women can’t get ahead to even be equal. Women and men are constantly putting them down for absolutely everything.

Oopsminty Wed 05-Feb-20 14:18:18

I don’t care what political party you belong to. Women can wear what they want.

Can they?

Why can't we just go naked in summer then?

Or at the very least rock up to work in shorts and T shirts, regardless of their position

This is just infantilising women

Summerlove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:18:06

I don’t understand what that has to do with what women are wearing, Yeh.

That’s a really lovely way to completely undermine the issue of degrading a woman for her clothing choices though.

If you can’t argue the actual point as to why a woman shouldn’t wear what she wants, it’s always fun to bring up a side argument that has nothing to do with it.

TrendyNannie6 Wed 05-Feb-20 14:16:14

Not a good look

Labaik Wed 05-Feb-20 14:14:51

I think she looked awful. Don't know what possessed her to dress so inappropriately.

Yehbutnobut Wed 05-Feb-20 14:14:23

And should a male MP decide to turn up in woman’s wear?

Summerlove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:13:18

If a male can’t concentrate because of what a woman is wearing, said male should really not be out in public.

A woman’s clothing choice shouldn’t distract a man.

Chestnut Wed 05-Feb-20 14:10:49

Summerlove Women can wear what they want.
Woaah! That could lead to some interesting debates and total loss of male concentration ??

Summerlove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:07:58

Have to say I dislike cleavage showing in a normal workplace situation, too.

God for bid a woman have boobs.

Why can’t we all support each other? I wonder this often. And then I see comments like all of the ones on this thread. Women are not proper women unless they are doing it to someone else’s standards apparently.

Summerlove Wed 05-Feb-20 14:06:06

I wonder if Priti Patel or Esther McVey would get such positive comments from these posters if they'd turned up to the HoC in similar attire

I don’t care what political party you belong to. Women can wear what they want. They should not be subjected to criticism for that.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 05-Feb-20 14:03:31

Jacqui Smith had a similar problem a few years ago when she wore a "V" neck jumper and due to the angle of the cameras in the H of Cs people realised she had breasts ?

Whether it was an appropriate dress or not, what is not acceptable is the dreadful "trolling" on Social Media and elsewhere that she is receiving.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 13:58:47

Very elegantly put Sir but it won’t cut the mustard. ?

Greymar Wed 05-Feb-20 13:58:28

It's tiresomely predictable

Yup.

SirChenjin Wed 05-Feb-20 13:56:45

Try to think of it in a different way

Woman wears what she wants to work + debates very important issue = a good thing

PM and his unelected puppet master attempt to silence press + it becomes apparent the HS doesn’t understand the basics of her job = a bad thing

No detracting, no diverting, just perspective.

Greymar Wed 05-Feb-20 13:54:10

dear me, possibly an error of judegment on her behalf. The dress is an appropriate colour and it looks as though it may have slipped a little in the picture. It is possibly not a great style.

Does it deserve the rampant mysogony ? Probably not.

suziewoozie Wed 05-Feb-20 13:53:12

Try this for logic -criticising an ill considered outfit is one thing, completely trashing her for wearing it with no other evidence as to her as a person is just damn silly.
