Hubby and I have just got back from Parliament Square celebrations (stayed longer than planned as the atmosphere was electric!) - We all made so many new friends (both leavers and remainers) - Hellllllo to the "Backing Singers"! And Tenby Angels Helllooo - Hopefully we will see some new members joining GN. (I've warned them about the welcoming committee, don't worry). There is definitely a wonderfully, optimistic buzz in the UK! I love this British wave of positivity. Reminds me of the Berlin Wall coming down.
Well I've just looked at the Independent article and it's was written by a bias Remainer so no surprises there then. I've looked at the photos and cannot find any Nazi salutes as for the song 70 plus million f**k offs I've seen more offensive language by a small minority of Remain voters on here, faux outrage in my opinion. If it were your beloved lefty Lib Dems singing 70 million Bollocks to Boris and his cabinet you'd no doubt think it was a hoot.
Disgrace? in what way- just stating some facts. I think its a disgrace that you and others do not disassociate yourself from the far right thugs who were celebrating in their own sweet way
chestnut apologies if you thought my reference to you patronising. It wasn’t intended to be. I just think it’s telling that several other posters have implicitly defended the thugs’ actions and the obscene songs.
I suppose some Far Right Parties are banned Lucywinter. I think I find the move to the right of the Tories scarier. What happened about Yaxley-Lenin’s attempts to join the Tory party. Last I saw Baroness Warsi was getting a load of abuse for suggesting the Party should refuse. I never saw an outcome.
I also didn’t see a response to Katie Hopkins shouting about Boris’ blue collar army.
That’s the sort of thing I would like to see the Tories stamping on. I know it’s harder now they have booted out the moderate MP’s.
Well a lot of British living overseas were unable to vote in the referendum. EU citizens living here could not. Most EU citizens here cannot vote in general elections.
lucywinter:I wonder if the votes of the obviously racist far-righters had been disallowed, whether we would have actually left the EU. If you feel that banning certain groups from voting will improve things then you are living in the wrong country. You may as well ask what the result would be if we banned anyone who came from abroad from voting. Or anyone who has gone to live abroad. Or prisoners.
I wonder if the votes of the obviously racist far-righters had been disallowed, whether we would have actually left the EU.
There is a really noxious video on Twitter at the moment posted by Jeremy Vine, showing nasty, evil looking, union flag draped thugs, being racist to an innocent foreign visitor. Squirm making.
MawB:The crowing and gloating on this and the other similar threads leaves a bad taste. Maybe because remainers started posting on what was supposed to be a celebratory thread with insulting and goading remarks aimed at leavers! Remainers do not have to endure the celebratory comments on those threads, they could just go over to the other thread where people were lamenting their loss and drowning in their tears. But instead they chose to spoil the party and wind the leavers up. Sorry if that backfired on you.
Trisher , I could take issue with a lot of what you have said about leavers ( as if they are all in some kind of category - and even if they were, the category you have them in is one of the mythical ones according to the research) , however, this thread, like a similarly titled one is under the cosh of GN for being a bit too heated so I am withdrawing from both.
I don't think celebrating a win at sporting events has been likened to racist thugs shouting obscenities and stamping on flags. It was likened to any winner being entitled to celebrate their win without being accused of gloating.
I am always struck by the examples of good sportsmanship when both teams applaud and shake hands with each other before returning to the changing rooms. The crowing and gloating on this and the other similar threads leaves a bad taste. Would it not be best for all concerned to give it a rest. #notinmyname
aprilrose of course some celebration is allowed but rubbing it in is usually considered over the top. And anyway as the Leavers are returning to British values the traditional ways of behaving should surely be the ones they espouse. Even footballers change shirts and applaud the opposite team. That's the troubke with Leavers they only want the British values they like. Things like tolerance, accepting those in need, protecting the weakest and respecting everyone seem to be things they will happily throw out the window.
