France bans live shredding of chickens - anyone object?

I don't see how anyone could object to this decision. Yes, I hope the UK follows on.
I'm not vegan but a friend who is, always mentions the way young male chicks are killed, alongside the way female cows are pregnant annually in order to provide us with milk.

I don't find it difficult to understand why veganism is increasing. I try to do my bit by buying local, organic, free range. It's good that these issues are being more openly discussed.

Personally I hope the UK also follows this.
I can see no justification for the cruelty involved.

according to this article by the RSPCA maceration is over in a second. Kinder than the gassing by carbon dioxide.

We can only hope that a way of determining sex whilst still in the egg is developed soon.

I hadn’t heard of this, and was shocked to think it happened here. But according to this article, the RSPCA say that most, if not all, male chicks in the UK are killed by gassing, though maceration is still legal. It should be banned.

Well, the article I linked to, by the rspca, states that maceration is quicker maggiemaybe.

Cross-posted there, lucy winter, and it’s interesting that the Australian RSPCA have a negative view on gassing.

We buy our eggs from the smallholding up the road, where we know they look after their birds.

If we don’t become vegan, the best we can do is buy responsibly.

What a ghastly thing to even think of doing. Surely the UK won't allow this.

The Australian article you link to refers to gassing by carbon dioxide, lucywinter, no longer used in the UK.
