The poor old Queen went by train, emergin on the platform surrounded by commuters and looking very bundled up.

I felt for her as the first steps seemed a bit shaky after her long sit-down; I know that feeling.

Oh I didn’t realise that Anniebach. Well I suppose it’s a halfway-house type of situation. Gives Charles the opportunity to step up to the plate a little more. Probably a good thing for both of them.

I’m sure I read somewhere she intends to stand down in 18 months and make Charles Prince Regent. No one would blame her - it’s been a long reign. I’m not particularly a royalist but I bet I cry when she dies.

This has been discussed before, the Queen ‘retiring’. I don’t think she will ever ‘retire’. She will just pass more on to Charles and others to do. Cannot imagine she will just pootle off to Sandringham and not have some sort of role.

Vows can mean you have to still keep going until you drop. It depends on what the person making the vow understood it to mean at the time they took it.

For heaven's sake, none of us (I presume!) has a clue about what sort of relationship the queen and Prince Phillip have. For all we know, they might hate the sight of each other by now, so I'm certainly not going to either praise, criticise or sympathise regarding the queen's whereabouts while he is in hospital.

I hope Philip is not suffering anything serious. I suppose at his age every precaution should be taken. The Queen may be criticised for not being with him but I agree with Wildswan that would cause more problems for the hospital.

She made a vow and is honouring it. She will not have to ‘let go’ until she dies. She could appoint Charles as Prince Regent
if she was not physically or mentally capable.

The queen has her choices and should have /could have retired whenever she wanted, she could have had a few years peace and quiet with Old Phil, she’s the one holding on to the bitter end I think Charles is every bit as safe pair of hands as his mother and she will have to let go at one point if she hasn’t geared him up for his position by now, she never will

It was a planned admission and he is said to not to like having visitors when he is in hospital. Presumably the idea is to get him home for Christmas.

Nobody lives forever and he is 98.

I gasped when I saw the headline because it's a standing joke in our house that DH always predicts the Christmas/Boxing Day disaster.

A couple of weeks ago we were laughing about it and I asked him what this year's was going to be. Quick as a flash he said, 'Prince Philip!'

He hasn't looked 100% for a while really so maybe he'll be " fixed up " to spend and enjoy this Christmas at least. I hope so.
Realistically, nobody of that age can look too far ahead. Aww.

I'm sure if it was serious then she would. But she is also well aware that even though she doesn't want to "make a fuss", her presence anywhere causes all sorts of problems and any hospital really doesn't need that.
