So what should I be ashamed of exactly? My gay son perhaps?
Husband to have TURP operation - advice for the post op care
Was taken from Sandringham to Edward 7th hospital ,London for observation in relation to a pre existing condition.
So what should I be ashamed of exactly? My gay son perhaps?
Don't be so ridiculous
Nobody has said they do Granny
Being anti monarchy is not tosh. Thats your opinion Maw. And it doesn't mean one is unsympathetic.
I have sympathy for PP but not more than for anyone else.
But I agree some comments are uncalled for.
I didn't know PP had prostate cancer. I thought they were keeping quiet about what's wrong with him.
I've skimmed through many posts but confess to not having RTT. I've seen many suggestions that because PP is a member of the RF he's getting treatment that wouldn't be available on the NHS.
I accept he'll be in private rooms, with his own treating team. A member of my family was admitted earlier this year, with a uti linked to prostate cancer. He sadly died 3 weeks later. In the period he was hospitalised, the level of care given was superb. The week he spent in ICU meant he had a named nurse who was with him constantly during the day, replaced by another named nurse overnight. His treating doctors met regularly with his family to discuss his care.
We have had two funerals in the past weeks. Both close friends who died after cancer treatment over several years. Again, the level of care was superb, the hospice involvement excellent and the carers, district nurses and GP's involved with end of life care at home unquestionably good.
My loved one's were just ordinary folks, not members of the RF.
I sometimes think we forget just how good the NHS still is. Yes it's underfunded, needs support, needs its management structures reviewed, somehow we need to replace all the EU nurses and doctors who are 'going home because Brexit confirms you don't want/need us". Our GP's are one of the most stretched area of the NHS along with A and E, that's where most of us come face to face with the problems. We need to lobby our MP's and the Prime Minister to fund and protect as they promised they would. Making snide comments about the preferential treatment being given to a 98 year old man who has served out country for so long does seem unpleasant.
This has turned out to be another one of those horrible threads.
Sorry for your loss Iam64.
So sorry you have lost two dear friends Iam
I agree with your post .
We don't forget how wonderful it is. Not at all.
No one has said that.
lavenderzen I agree with you. I lay abed last night actually thinking about leaving GN, - and I joined within months of the networkks launch - because it has got so nasty in recent months. I thought it would ease off after the election, but it hasn't and the nastiness has spread to threads like this, which has been unpleasant,to poisonous, and I am not particularly a royalist.
The worst thing is that I am aware that I too am in danger of becoming less pleasant myself in response to others declining standards.
I am by no means a monarchist but I do see that they are all trapped in their situation and have coped with it as best they could.
No one can help the family into which they are born and the strict protocol the royals are forced to accept has done many of them a great deal of harm.
Nor does it make sense, however much of a social conscience one has - and despite what Jesus said, for anyone to insist someone, 'give all that you have to the poor'.
And be blamed for if if they don't.
This applies equally to me on a pension I receive from the State, as to Prince Philip with $30 million.
We both have a right to do what we wish with the money we have, however it was acquired.
I feel sorry for the the old bloke in hospital; I felt extremely sorry for his wife when, during the Falkland's War, she knew her son was flying helicopters in an appallingly dangerous situation.
She looked, as I would have, if my own son was deployed: haggard and desperately worried.
I would love to have just a fraction of their money, it would make my life so much more comfortable and pleasant - but I would not swap places with any one of them, shackled as they are to royal status, for every penny they possess.
Where is this poison and nastiness on this thread because I just don't see it?
We are allowed an opinion, the sadness is everything is binary.
I can feel sad for the Queen and slightly frustrated that the RF have access to immediate top quality medical care whilst others do not and value the NHS.
Didn't the same thing happen at Christmas time a couple of years ago? I have something in the back of my mind. The last picture I saw of him was terrible, he looked how my Dad looked in the final stages of heart failure. The Queen is marvellous though for her age.
Yep, he was in hospital a few years ago over xmas, but I can't remember which of his illnesses it was for.
The royal family are not the only people who have private
health care.
I don't think PP will be home for Christmas, maybe. I saw a picture of the Queen yesterday going to church with, I think it was Sophie, she had a lovely green outfit on. Her family will be with her which is a comfort.
I don't understand people who complain about threads becoming unpleasant and then continue to post on them. If a thread is not to your liking just leave it and move on to another one.
If I could afford private health care in the UK I would do so. It's up to each individual how they spend their money.
Annie, I do know the RF are not the only family with private health care. If they were it would be a very tiny system wouldn't it?
Thank you though for your comment.
Why are some resentful of the royal family having private
health care , if I was against it I would be against private health care not just one family.
I quit.
If everyone who uses private health care stopped and changed to the NHS, it would be even MORE stretched than it is already. Thank goodness for the people who pay for themselves is all I can say.
Some times threads become so unpleasant, that someone needs to prepared to put their head above the barricade and say so.
Evil triumphs because good people do nothing . I am not suggesting I am particularly good, but there are levels discourse should not fall below.
Making snide comments about the preferential treatment being given to a 98 year old man who has served out country for so long does seem unpleasant
I agree and with others who have said so.
This is a Veteran of WW2, probably one of the few surviving ones in fact, who is ill and in hospital.
Just because it is a private hospital and he went to a public school is no reason for some of the shocking comments on this thread.
inkcog asks “where is this nastiness because I can’t see it.”
Might I suggest you start here?

I'm not a royalist but even if I were I wouldn't have a shred of respect for Prince Philip, or indeed this particular royal family since the role models it has been sending us for years and years are quite despicable, yet people continue to worship the royals as though it were a group of demi-gods. Principle Philip has had a mistress for decades - it's a matter of public record and nobody bats an eyelid, Prince Charles had a mistress at the time he was getting married to Diana, and Prince Andrew has disgraced his wife and daughters, and the wider family
etc etc.
