Sensible discussion on Labour Leadership hopefuls

I know a few people who joined the Labour Party and voted for Corbyn, their reasoning he would never be acceptable to the general public as PM, thereby enabling a Conservative Government,

gaga and the more members that think that Corbyn was the way to go the less likely they are to vote for an electable leader but rather someone in his mould- which lost them the election!

Not at all. You assume all LP members are stupid. If you check earlier in the thread, you'll see I support Starmer now.

I think the Conservative voters on here need to check themselves. They voted for Boris. He may be PM but he's a liar and a cheat.

As far as a couple of other go, including infantile accusations of policing the thread, what I was trying to do was have a grown up, forward facing discussion, without dragging B***t into it, or a re-run of the election.

Is that too much to ask?

PS there are plenty of other threads where no holds are barred. Why not use them to get your point across instead.

I think that Statement would be a good bet. He seems articulate and is well known which would seem to be a good starting point. I did hear on the radio that a southern barrister may be a hard sell in the north but they need someone who can move things forward quickly. He might be a good interim leader but maybe they need someone else's to lead into the next election. However whether those in charge will think with their heads remains to be seen.

The thing is, Corbyn wasn't a graduate and that did him no favours with Northerners, so...

I too can see that a southern barrister would be a hard sell.
They like their leaders to be Eton/Oxford educated.

What would concern me about Keir Starmer's leadership would be his previous career as a barrister with an interest in human rights.
I would be concerned that the right wing press could find something in his previous career to try and discredit him, depending on who he has defended in court.

My POINT Yehbutnobut, was about educational level. Being a northern graduate may not help Starmer, whether he went to Leeds or not. Being a non graduate didn't help Corbyn.

I think Caroline Flint has put paid to Emily Thornberry's chances.

Emily Thornberry had a very hard upbringing. On free school meals at one point, and worked as a cleaner. Her father, a high flyer, deserted the family I think.

Ilovecheese - when you look at the history of the current leadership of the Tories, it's hard to imagine that there's anything the press could dig up that would make an impact!
