Putting December 2020 into law is not going to influence the EU one jot in fact it may harden their position. The U.K. always had a weak negotiating position, nothing has changed, the EU are not going to allow any cherry-picking, the UK is not going to get any advantage over member states.
That was their position on day one they have not changed, rather that betray their own members they will suffer the consequences of a “no deal”. The current Withdrawl Deal allows for a range of outcomes from a very soft cooperative exit, to a “ no deal “ third country exit with tariffs on everything.
