Re Dennis Skinner. He was a real character but sadly being in poor health and at the age of 80 he really should have stood down rather than face such a bruising end to a long political career.

I am a Conservative and very happy at the size of the majority. People who are shocked and sad should have realised that the promise to honour the result of the referendum and then ignoring the will of the voters, would end as it did. Now Boris must make sure that one nation conservatism is how he governs. I am looking forward to seeing the HofC full of northern Conservative MPs.

Anyone who thinks millions of people aren't living in poverty are kidding themselves.

My daughter deals with poverty-stricken people every day of her working life and the cases are heartbreaking - and endless.

Tories will do nothing to transform this situation.

Sadly Israel exists because of the awful treatment of the Jewish people by the Nazis. Most decent people around the world accept this but why must the cost of a Jewish nation be at the expense of another nation , the Palestinians. Why can't people live side by side and in harmony?

We have become a nation of beggars and museums. Our once proud manufacturing factories from clothes to Concorde lay empty, telling the story of this great nation of yesteryear. Will BJ bring back our industries or will we be just packing boxes for China, India and America. Lining our towns with giant warehouses filled with inferior goods and plastic rubbish for us to buy.

We are forever asked for money by charities wherever you go or on the telly. What is BJ going to do about the people who are so desperately reliant on this money, will he open his purse or let the charities beg for more like Oliver.

There is so much wrong in this country I can't see us coming back from this election result. We have at least 5 more years of the same to look forward too.

I know this wont go down well with the soft hearted but I worked with homeless people /those in poverty for a time - albeit a while ago now. Whilst they always have "Heartbreaking " stories of their poverty and homelessness, when you scratched the surface often there was far more going on that could be solved by giving them a house or benefits. It was never a result of the cruel welfare system or the nasty politicians. Frequently they had issues of their own making.

Corbyn never was ‘far left’ he was and is a caring socialist, branded by the media who mostly are rampant Conservatives and distorted his message at every opportunity. So what happens now to the disabled, children and their working parents who have to resort to the humiliation of food banks to survive. I hope, when the NHS is privatised those who were concerned only with brexit see that what they wished for brought a very different outcome.

Yes, very sad and worried here in the north of England too. We have been ignored here for decades the only time we had a second thought was by the EU. Sorry times ahead.

And quite frankly, I don't give a flying f**k how many kids BJ has got - I imagine he at least pays for them himself, unlike the family of 9 who started a GoFundMe page to pay for their kids' Christmas presents. They had 7 kids in 7 years. And the dad didn't work. Even his mother-in-law called him a lazy b***d. And before you all start screaming, no I know that not everyone on benefits are scroungers, and that's NOT what I'm saying, but I'd rather take the word of a responsible dad who pays for his own kids, than an irresponsible one who doesn't. It's not human nature at its worst. I hope very much that we have a credible opposition, which will hold the government to account - that's its role!

I really feel the Labour party have only themselves to blame and for two reasons. Firstly Brexit. Like it or not, we had a referendum three years ago. The country voted to leave. Regardless of whether we were lied to, cheated or conned, we cannot say we live in a democracy but then ignore the results. Labour refused to sanction or support Mrs May's or Mr Johnson's deals, not because they disagreed with them but because they saw it as an opportunity to bring down the government and take over. Secondly, Mr Corbyn himself. Most of us are old enough to remember the damage far left governments caused back in the 70s when far left policies and the unions caused untold misery to industry and the population. The threat of the rise of the far left, momentum, and anti semitism frightened a lot of people away. Just that awful, moronic, thuggish chant "oh Jeremy Corbyn " like a mob of drunken football supporters was enough for me! As for me, I voted Green!!! So I lost anyway!!

I'm thrilled with the outcome, and not surprised. Corbyn is a Socialist and has done untold damage to the Labour party. I've always voted Conservative, and Boris is great for the party. The best thing since Margaret Thatcher.

If the result gets rid of Jeremy Corbyn (and his dreadful advisers) I am pleased, though worried on other levels about Boris Johnson's policies and the type of Government he will lead.

We need a decent replacement as Leader of the Opposition who will finally hold the Government to account. I fear though that the hard left and unions will vote for someone of their own ilk. Having them on board and in positions of influence saddles the Labour Party to a corpse.

With respect, Dennis Skinner is actually 87, so it’s probably time he called it a day anyway. He’s been an MP since 1950 I believe, so has had a good run.

I am thrilled Boris did so well, thought it would be a hung parliament. I found his speech this morning inspirational, the bluster and waffle was replaced with a clear vision of how this country could be great again.

I don't understand how people can be "saddened" and "shocked" and "worried" by the result. We're better off without Corbyn, McDonnell, Swinson and the Lib Dems "revoke Article 50" lackeys and all those other Remoaner MPs who have stymied the Referendum result from three and a half years ago. They've had their second "peoples' vote" and lost again in spectacular fashion so let's get on with Brexit and then return to concentrating on the country.

I cannot believe that this country has become such a selfish nation. Who thought about the poor, vulnerable and needy in when casting their vote in this election? The Conservatives don’t care as they don’t believe there’s any poverty in this country. I’m very angry, disillusioned and sad that people voted for the likes of Jacob Rees Mog - do people really believe that this man truly cares?
