Anxiety

You know the saying about worrying about what you can fix/control etc. The outcome of the GE is out of our control and should be accepted. Of course we can do with the result what has happened to the referendum outcome and take years arguing about it until another GE is called.

Urmston has a new library - built in 2010 - just before austerity kicked in so we were lucky. I use it frequently. It wonderful with lifts/escalator for easy access and is child friendly with singing groups. There is a corner area with a dozen computers to log on to.

Whenever I’ve needed a GP appointment locally I’ve always got in the same day.

The local leisure centre is currently being upgraded, extended and improved.

Our local district general hospital does NOT charge parking fees (so proud of that) and it has a minor injuries unit/walk in open 7 days a week 8am - 8pm where patients are promptly triaged.

yes, and very deliberately so by a section of the Press owned by wealthy, often tax dodging, Cons supporters. Clear as a bell.
In my/our case, it worked perfectly - but not the way they intended.

I voted Labour today. I refuse to be brainwashed by our MSM. I have listened to many of Corbyn’s speeches and looked at his voting record. He has been vilified by the MSM undeservedly in my opinion.

Well, it must be random Gagajo. I live in a very wealthy area and it's almost impossible to get a GP appointment, A&E is on its knees. The standard waiting time is 6-12 hours (no wonder staff booed Johnson when he visited). The local schools (all rated good or excellent) are forecast to lose an average of just over £600pa per pupil next year. The district and county councils are slashing services. There is hardly any social care and council houses are non-existent for new applicants. Housing costs 14 times the average wage. Libraries and day centres have been closed. Police numbers have been cut. I could go on ...

I wonder where these places which still have excellent public services are!

I too have been anxious about today but I have now made my vote and hope for the best tomorrow. My DH was still undecided but has also now made his choice, but like most of us is worried about it being the right one. Sadly we know that our vote will count for nothing because of this country's undemocratic electoral system and whilst we are stuck with the same party for over a hundred years, at least we tried to change things and did our best, so all we can do now and wait for the results.

One point I have to make is what helped me a lot to get to grips with this election and to make a final decision was the gransnet forums. By joining in the discussions and reading everyone's point of view embolden me to think about what really matters, something I had not achieved in the real world because of the explosive nature of Brexit and the election.

So thanks Gransnet for letting me put the world's to right and sorting out the real issues of the election in my mind so I am now confident that I made the right decision.

I am passionate abut public services so I voted labour, Corbyn is great and as varian says above, he has been clobbered by the billionaire press who really don't want them interfering with their tax status

Must be where you live because I’m a teacher and our schools are excellent and I have used A&E twice this year - both times superb. Yes you sometimes have to wait but the triage are wonderful and they soon worked out who could wait and who couldn’t.

You're spot on Tigertooth, it IS where I live. I live in the very middle of the area of the North East of England, decimated by Thatcher. It is poor, disenfranchised, we have record levels of hunger. Now on the 3rd generation affected by Thatcher's imposed mass unemployment and lack of industry.

IF Nissan goes after Brexit, things will get even worse here.

I’m feeling anxious not only for the result of who gets to walk into number 10 but also for the result in my constituency. For the first time ever I’ve voted for the candidate and not the party. We have a fantastic Independent candidate who is a local lad and also a member of the Council. He’s extremely popular and proactive but the Labour candidate will be hard to beat because he had a large majority at the last election.

The fraudulent referendum of 2016 was a corruption of democracy - won by lies, cheating and foreign interference and it would have been annulled if it had been mandatory.

If you are concerned about democracy, vote to stop the Tories, get a People's Vote and stop brexit.

If you are sure you want brexit and Johnson as PM you will vote Conservative.

If that is not what you want, consult websites such as tactical.vote/ to see which anti-Tory candidate they recommend in your constituency.

I am fed up with all parties and politicians, none of whom seem to be putting the country before personal celebrity status. MPs who left their respective parties to set up another are still in parliament - HOW and WHY? Their respective constituents didn't elect them to a third party. Few seem to remember that, despite their personal view, the country voted to leave the EU. It's called democracy. As the old saying goes 'you can never satisfy all the people all the time'

Like others on this site I was totally unsure. Don't like any leaders, don't like their visions for our country. I'm sure together they could have cobbled up something good but individually they are not good for us.
Forced myself to watch question time last week to watch a group of 'CHILDREN' talking over each other shouting and not answering simple questions. In school it wouldn't be allowed.
However finally I decided that my husband of 40+ years has guided us through safely all our married life and I voted as he did (much against his wishes). I am sad that at the age of 62 I could not make my own mind up but I refused to waste the vote.
What will be will be.

I agree with @GagaJo & others, this time is so personal& difficult & as we’re mostly over 50 on here, many don’t have time/health/energy on our side.

@Hetty58 , it must be great to be fairly blasé & be able to “just “get on with your day”once you’ve voted. I’m not being funny/rude, but you & likely some others don’t get why this is so crucial & worrying for many of us?

I worked for the Government department #DWP at one time & once I became too unwell to work, I was treated so badly. All the “we’re a 2 ticks disabled friendly employer” was a lie & we were hounded. What I’ve since gone through in last 8 years & many others, has been cruel & mean/unfair in the extreme. Many others have died & existed in agony prior to dying. Don’t bother trying to come back at me, that I must be exaggerating etc., I have been in both sides of this & know what I’m talking about.

Ironically, this has all cost the NHS, & other Services so much more money & time, they never get that, but of course it’s because it’s ideology more than anything. All of the private companies who have assessed me & so many others (rather than letting my GP decide) have wasted billions of taxpayers £ they’ve made profits for their shareholders. Disability hate crime through the roof.

I used to joke with my medical persons how ironic it was that they were going to spend out on so much treatment for me, yet the DWP were trying to kill me off. They didn’t agree or get into it, it didn’t deny it either.

Anyway, that’s my political rant over for now. Will have to wait, breaking what’s left of my nails. I think it’s a lot like trying to explain to people who haven’t experienced it, “crippling fatigue & pain from ME, CFS, Fibromyalgia is not like ordinary tiredness”. Many people will never get it & we’re wasting time & energy trying to convince them.

I'm still unsure about who to vote for. I change my mind every hour. So many bad choices and no good ones I'm afraid. I've always voted and been sure of my choice until this time. I've come to the conclusion that my local kindergarten is probably the best choice. They're more reasonably behaved.

Ditto on the anxiety. I used to feel excited and optimistic every time I voted. That changed the day of the referendum when I felt anxious about it for the first time. I can't help but ponder that whatever the outcome tomorrow - my party, another party, a hung parliament - we'll still have a massive period of uncertainty ahead going into a new decade, which surely we've never had since 1939 going into 1940. Horrid unsettling times.

This election is really frightening. Business leaders lining up to leave the country.

I certainly do not agree with that. Jo Swinson has integrity, honesty and compassion and , had she been allowed to take part in the debates with Tory and Labour leaders, as Nick Clegg was, I think she would have won hands down and had them both competing to say "I agree with Jo"

I also think that Corbyn is, unlike Johnson, basically honest and has been unfairly attacked by the Tory press. As for him being a security risk, we have been told that when Johnson became Foreign Secretary, sensitive information could not be disclosed to him because he was known to be a security risk.

I do t agree, I think Corbyn has all 3 qualities in bucketfuls, I won’t vote for him as I think he’s a dangerous idealist who will wreak havoc and endanger our country. I think his heart is in the right place though, he’s just deluded.

Your refusal to see the need for tactical voting, this time of all time- really confuses me and saddens me Grandad (as said, with respect) - I just don't get it- especially as your business and colleagues work in a large EU context.
