A democracy is not a democracy if you are not allowed to changed your mind.

I’ve decided to come back here aprilrose and fellow Leavers ... let’s see if they can be as courteous to this thread as we are to theirs!

I doubt it somehow. They are more cross than we are. I think that’s because they now that their hope of reversing Brexit is slipping away.

Very revealing that remainers have inundated this site demanding to be heard but only one brexiter has commented on the remainers only site!

Joelsnan Do you deny that it was said it would be the easiest deal in history, that we'd get a better deal out than we had while in? Did you hear a single leave campaigner say it's going to be tough coming to an agreement, and obviously we will lose the benefits of being in the club? You may have been thinking all along that we'd finish up worse off, at least in the beginning, but I doubt that applies to every leave voter. Why bother with general elections, after all if people change their minds once they know the full facts, that's just tough luck. Vote once, vote for all time. Except we don't think like that do we? At least we get to reverse bad decisions about government, this decision cannot be reversed no matter how much we want to.

I am not in the slightest bit frightened of another vote. What I am frightened of is the effect that ignoring what was supposed to be a once in a lifetime referendum endorsed by just about all politicians at the time and confirmed by the enactment of A50 will have on our children's future.
I thought we lived in a true democratic society. I have voted since I was 18, have no political allegiance and have often been disappointed when the party I thought most closely represented my beliefs lost. I, and everyone else accepted the outcome, we did not say we didn't know what we were voting for, or all the other memes vocalised by remain voters.
Is it going to be a country where he who shouts loudest now gets to dictate to the rest, an extreme version of the PC brigade. It seems dangerous to me.

It doesn't help that our parliamentarians, aided and abetted by biased Bercow insist on trying to insist that their version of 'democracy' is right.

Oopsminty I'm nobody's "pet" it's "pat". That aside any club that wants to change its constitution normally sets rules that a certain percentage of members must vote, and of those that vote a certain winning margin must be obtained. If those criteria are not met, it stays with the status quo. For something as momentous as this change for a country, there should have been the same criteria. That a single vote could have decided this issue is madness.

Jacob R-M on LBC has said he would never support a second referendum because the original Leave vote would be overturned and that would cause problems!

So you're agreeing that those MPs whose constituents voted remain must vote against any type of Brexit. At least that's consistent. What if an MP's constituents have made it clear they only voted for the Brexit that was going to give us a better deal than we currently have? You know the easiest deal in history, the one where the club gave the non-member far better terms than the members.

Why the fear of another vote Joelsnan ? If "the people" want to leave then that vote will easily win, and then the remain contingent will have lost their biggest claim that the country has changed its mind. I've copied this humorous comment from another forum, it's the type of argument made by leavers all the time.

We can't have another GE until 2022, we all knew what we were voting for, a 5 year term for our winning MP. A 5 year term we were promised and that's what we want and now we're not getting it. To have another GE now betrays 32 million voters who expected a 5 year term, the traitors. So much for promises, democracy is dead, I'm not voting for any party again. No voters will change their votes, the same MPs will win again and the manifestos will stay the same. No point in voting they won't give us a 5 year term.

It’s only remainers that want the referendum. The people who comprise the largest section of the ‘actual’ peoples vote just want the outcome to be enacted. That’s how democracy works.

How could the ordinary Brit secure employment in an EU country without the ability to communicate?
I agree someone with a degree in a specific language may get work, but the lower academic, or low skilled would be very unlikely to benefit from free movement to secure employment. The wages for these jobs are lower in EU anyway, that’s why folk come here.

Next in line would be all the MPs who are paid to represent their constituents and haven't. All those whose majority of constituents voted Leave.

AllTheLs so you'd agree that any MP whose constituents voted a majority for remain can not vote for leave in any form? I've asked this question before but nobody, leaver or remainer, has answered.

Yes, it works,
I do wish people would stop calling this a Peoples vote. The actual Peoples vote was held in 2016. The referendum that is being called for now is and should be called the Remainers vote. Or, indeed the poor losers vote.

PS. I have a pension (not a very good one) but no second home in Europe. I don't even own my own home in the UK and my rent swallows up all my pension (and more). I still voted to remain.

You don't need 27 languages to work in EU countries. Just saying.
