Jessica Simor QC @JMPSimor Yet another legal twitter prediction but I too think the Government will lose today. If the Supreme Court was to hold that it could not rule on prorogation the world would look on aghast and question whether we are a real democracy. I think the Supreme Court will understand this.
He has good legal advice. Geoffrey Cox (aka Rumpole). He will prorogue again. It’s not illegal in itself. The Supreme Court judges are deciding whether or not he lied to HM when he did it last time.
I just meant for those decrying that Bills wouldn’t get passed, due to the proroguement, that the parliamentary session would have to end sometime. And that if one looks at it in that light, maybe the progress of some of these Bills got further than they might have ordinarily got - hasn’t this session been the longest since ... whenever?
Well you don’t have to look too far upthread GGmk3!
Yesterday evening at 17:13pm (same post as I congratulated Elegran but my comment wasn’t taken up!) I posted:
It occurs to me though that perhaps their petitions had gotten so much further than the norm this parliamentary session anyway, just because of the sheer, uninterrupted length of it!
So yes, disappointing for them, but the party was going to end sometime, wasn’t it?
And of course he will be ably assisted in the press, who will be believed by the gullible
Jo Maugham QC @JolyonMaugham I believe that Number 10 plans to dial up the political temperature under this case. It wants to be forced by judges to obey the law enacted by Parliament so it can, as it yesteday signalled, attack 'illegitimate judges' in a general election for ignoring the 'will of the people'
