The country didn’t vote to leave with no deal. It’s arguable what is meant by “the country” or the sacred 17.4 m, what about the 55m of the population who didn’t vote for it? If it had been 75% population you might have a chance of persuading people it’s a good idea. As it is it’s a vocal minority of loud mouths with a hate message and war like rhetoric who are stirring people up and causing division.

I think most people would have gone with a Norway style deal as we were promised by the leave campaign as it is a compromise, but no it wasn’t Brexitty enough so the extremists rejected it. Don’t blame the remainers for all this mess.

If only people were taught more thoroughly about the English Civil War in the 17th century when Parliament fought for the people against the likes of Rees Mogg and his ilk. The latter want a no deal to boost their private income and investments.

Elected MPs are how democracy is organised in this country. How many times does it take for some to hear that referendums are ADVISORY. It's like imagining that instead of a local council we could organise bin day by a everyone having their say in a single vote! Thank god for Parliament and the ancient institutions of this country.

crystal I think you are right. What has prevented us from leaving are about 40 extreme hard right politicians. Without their ultra- hard right stance I have no doubt that the U.K. would now be out on a moderate agreement.

I agree Whitewave, the ERG, the no deal hardliners have fought tooth and nail to avoid a deal.

Don’t forget, if this bill goes through IT WILL NEVER BE NEEDED IF JOHNSON GETS A DEAL BY 17th OCTOBER.

We are where we are, solely because MPs cannot accept leaving the EU.
They could have accepted T May’s ‘deal’ (WA) it was reasonable after all, but no, it was voted down three times.
Now they want another what? Six months, a year, extension after extension until they hope we all forget about it?
Taking no deal off the table means no better deal is forthcoming ( and MPs know this.)
It’s bad enough for everyone, but especially bad for
businesses.
An election soon would clear the way if Johnson wins it.

Looking at the title of this thread it would seem that many believe that leaving the European Union with no-deal was no longer a prospect. However, nothing could be further from the facts.

It is today that having gained control of the order paper that MPs have to pass a bill through Parliament that will prevent Britain leaving without a deal. MPs will also have to agree on extending Britains leave date until the 31st of January to allow further leave agreement negotiations to take place.

In my view, today is far more crucial in its outcome for the United Kindom than any day in the last eighty years.
