Gilly the recent case of a woman being injured , it was an outrider not a security guard. Annoying as it is , at times when they are driving through London for an official engagement the route is cleared , not the entire route closed but sections where traffic has to stop to let the car through.

It's pointless nit-picking, Annie because the Royal family security detail is made up of military personnel, (retired or serving) and law enforcement agents.

Outriders are part of a security team on any particular occasion they are picked for duty.

In the event of an incident they are trained to protect not just ride away into the sunset.

Witness what happened when Greenpeace tried to disrupt Boris making his way to Buckingham Palace. The outriders were the first to re-act.

In fact, I think there would be even more security for him/her and extended family.

We still pay a lot of money for security for ex-politicians, some of whom are now extremely wealthy.
