Post Brexit food

I have heard that Morrison's only buy meat from their own British farmers so maybe shop there for meat unless you can buy directly from farm shop as I often do. Hopefully we will have some deals ready to start on Nov 1st.

Watching tonight’s BBC News and it is crystal clear that a no deal Brexit is going to be suicidal.
Why are Boris and his cronies ( and actually the rest of them) so dead set on this catastrophic course?
Is it fear of losing face? A dangerous game of brinkmanship?
Did we the public have any idea of what was in store?
Did anybody tell it like it is?
FGS will somebody please be the first to blink and get back to some sort of sanity. ?

So many petitions and nothing's happened. Current one asking for a 2nd referendum has just closed with the Gov saying no.

Where exactly is there going to be extra land to grow all this stuff? And who is going to farm it? How is it all going to be ready by 1 November?

I'm really intrigued as to where all those people living in high rise flats in cities are going to grow their own produce. Window boxes?

And all those people living in the thousands of Victorian workers' terraced houses with just a small back yard. Do you think a couple of grow bags could produce enough to feed a family?

Even if we do up agricultural production who is going to harvest it once the EU workers have stopped coming?

What a brilliant opportunity. Mental health and physical health improved by supporting/or growing our own produce. Everything eaten 'in season' reducing air/sea miles. Imported sugar and oils (some causing jungle clearance to produce) removed. Sugar reduction in food (unless we get our own sugar beet production up). Great opportunities for our own farmers!!

Leo Smith at GridWatch has been monitoring the interconnector flows between Scotland and England via a National Grid link since December 2015 Callistemon. The evidence shows that it is pretty much a one-way journey of power from Scotland to England. Now if you wanted leverage once you were an independent country what would you be saying about your exports of electricity?

It won't happen of course. The Brexiters tell us nothing can go wrong and we believe in the Brexiters just as we believe in Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy. So that's alright then.

I agree with you Barmeyoldbat and Seiko70. I have only recently joined Gransnet and i'm afraid I won't be sticking around. It seems respect for each others views is in short supply here, never mind fruit and veg!! People should be able to air their views and differences of opinion without having insults hurled at them. Buy local, seasonal produce and, if you can, grow your own! The big supermarkets are already buying more locally sourced fruit and veg.

Rationing wouldn't make things fair for everybody. Some people around here already have packed a few extra freezers in their garages and stockpiled non-perishables - just in case!

I'm sorry. I thought this thread was open to whoever wished to express a view. I didn't realise it was a private thread.

French and Spanish farmers have 27 other countries to find new deals, so I expect they'll be just fine.
Presumably they have deals with those 27 countries already - all of which could have reached the limit of their requirements.

I hope those farmers/businesses which do export to the UK now are putting pressure on their leaders and EU leaders to look again at the deal on offer for all our sakes.

Intransigence on both sides will do neither side any good.
