It was a joke in bad taste but its been turned into a mountain . Jo Brand is a good comedian. I love when she hosts HIGNFY. The remark has been censored now. Ridiculous.

Does anyone else think that Jo Brand's "joke" was in bad taste? Talking about the milkshake throwing she said "Why bother with milkshake when you could get some battery acid"
I appreciate she is anti-Brexit and she is entitled to share her views on that but surely this "joke" was a step too far.

His minders aren’t above a bit of heavy fisting either according to Beth Rigby, she was warned off yesterday after asking a question they didn’t like.
As far as I can recall, Boris Johnson, like him or loathe him, has never advocated maiming or disfiguring politicians he doesn't like in an acid attack.
Not averse to helping an old chum plan a punishment beating, though...

I like Jo Brand but I don't like this 'joke'. Acid attacks are on the increase, as are attacks and threats to politicians. Acid attacks are never funny. Milkshakes on the other hand, I can live with.
BBC is inconsistent, they sacked Danny Baker for a “racist tweet”.
You can’t deny a certain right wing thuggery from the likes of Britain First and the football hooligans group who paraded with swastikas. The terrorist who killed Jo Cox and the nazi sympathiser who has been imprisoned for plotting to kill another female mp. Well obviously there are deluded souls who deny their existence.
..and Farage said that his rifles and violence comments shouldn't be taken 'out of context'...
'The campaigner who won a Brexit legal challenge against the government, has revealed that she has been receiving threats of acid attacks for months and is afraid to leave her home.
The businesswoman said that if the threats continued and became too much to bear she would “seriously consider” leaving the UK.
“I have been getting threats of having acid thrown in my face for months and months now. When I see someone walk towards me on the street with a bottle of water or something, I just freak out,” she told news website Verdict magazine.
With the backdrop of a spate of acid attacks across the country, she said: “My life has completely changed.”
Miller spoke of her fears for her life just weeks after Rhodri Phillips, 50, the 4th Viscount St Davids, was jailed for 12 weeks for racially abusing her on social media.
Four days after she won her supreme court case against the government, Phillips offered a bounty for her to be run over. He offered “£5,000 for the first person to ‘accidentally’ run over this bloody troublesome first generation immigrant”....this was from a year or so back; I have done a search and can't find 6 pages of people condemning this, but apologies if I'm wrong...

Whether you're a lefty liberal making horrible jokes about right wingers, or a right winger making horrible jokes about lefty liberals, you should not expect to be prosecuted. You can expect to be criticised though. Even hated. But lets keep it fair. Anything else is hypocrisy.
I agree that she's misfired. I'm sure she realises that and I really hope she isn't sacked.
That said, we need to have a long hard look at what we are censoring and under which circumstances. We tread a fine line - many times - and often get it wrong.
Do you think anybody will be listening to Radio 4 thinking, " She told me to use acid, I'm going to get some and throw it at the next nasty right wing person I see"
The problem is we have had a spate of acid being thrown and the results have been horrific so I don't think it could ever be deemed a laughing matter even with Jo Brand's typically tongue in cheek delivery.
I do like Jo Brand by the way, although I think she has misfired with this one
Have only just come in so haven't read all the other comments but will do so.
I like Jo Brand and think she is usually very funny and insightful.
When judging this remark, I wondered how I would feel if somebody whose I dislike intensely and whose political views I vehemently oppose made the acid throwing remark. My conclusion was that I wouldn't like it as, although it was obviously a joke, it trivialises acts of violence.
It was a joke but, in my opinion, a very ill thought through joke.
Having said that, I still like Jo Brand and hope she is not sacked.
It has given a wonderful opportunity to those constantly blame "lefties" for all the evils of the world - they are, of course the only people to make tasteless jokes or incite and commit acts of violence.
Elvive Yes! I do! and yes, it was. Don't recall anyone complaining about it.
What's Milkshake the Original??
I'd like to say it was a waste of a good milkshake, but that isn't true.
Labaik I am very scared about the effects of this ridiculous and ill-advised referendum. Since it happened there have been an increase in homophobic and racial attacks and a growing intolerance towards refugees and indeed anyone different. This polarization is dangerous; the genie is out of the bottle and only a genius can put it back.
I fear for the future.
Labaik completely agree.
firecracker are you including that well known left wing thug Tommy Robinson in your condemnation? Just stop with all your lefty nonsense
Does anybody remember Spitting Image? Some of that was very cruel.
Did anybody find Milkshake the Original funny?
Day6 to paraphrase your earlier comments you accused left-wingers of violence towards those they disagreed with. I was merely pointing out that it was a right-wing extremist who actually carried out a fatal attack on Jo Cox. That is a different ballgame altogether from milkshakes and silly jokes on TV, inadvisable and pointless though they no doubt are.
The Metropolitan Police are now investigating remarks made by Jo Brand on Radio 4 Heresy program!
Being reported on Sky.com
Farage said in May 2016 'if people feel that voting doesn't change anything then violence is the next step'. Oh and if anyone listens to his taking up rifles speech he is greeted with cheers by his devoted followers.....
Actually I think the thuggish element is prevalent on the left side of politics.
Lol...as if.
I think you’ll find people get killed in wars, especially when rifles are involved.
The acid comment was not intended to be literal if we are to take Brand’s word for it, and not remotely funny, but hard.y worth the knicker twisting we see before us since Brand’s political influence is probably close to zero. However, we know Farage has a thuggish element in his following who would not be averse to violence and may well take his words literally whether he meant them or not. That’s the scariest bit,

"Yes pogs. If someone threw s milkshake at Corbyn and then a comedian said as Jo Brand did, I would find it funny."---
I wouldn't find it funny to throw a milkshake at Corbyn nor would I find it funny for anybody to joke about throwing battery acid over him.
How different we all are.
