Horrified by Alabama Abortion law

Great news from the District Attorney’s office and hopefully that will be extended to include the Drs who carry out the abortions. Horrific that it’s come to this though.

There is an interesting article in Time Magazine on the Alabama Abortion Ban which is worth reading. It is feared that the ban will be far reaching and discourage doctors from practicing in some of the Southern States which are already very short of doctors, particularly in obs and gynae. Apparently Alabama has the highest rate of cervical cancer mortality in the country.

Social reasons would be deciding late on that you don't want the baby after all. (that's quite simple actually - and easy to understand)

Whatever reason a woman chooses to have an abortion it should be her choice and not concern anyone else. I very much doubt women make such a decision lightly.

It does become our business when late abortions take place simply because the baby is the wrong sex.
And yes, that happens here in the UK.

How on earth can a law enforcement officer refuse to enforce the law?

"Late abortions" arent at full term you know. They happen up to around only half way through a pregnancy!

I would have an abortion for "social reasons" (not that Im likely to get pregnant at this stage)

Yes, it was I who placed emphasis on "I decline" -- in an effort to further emphasize that the law would hamper a woman from deciding either to partake or decline-

I am in favour of termination up to 24 weeks in exceptional circumstances.
Abortion for social reasons should be respected to 14 weeks ( if not 12 )

So its not about the foetus then? Its about judging and punishing women.

A foetus of a 15 yr old rape victim who didnt know they were pregnant is no different at 23wks to the foetus of a 30 year old who initially supressed their doubts but finally realised they dont want it at 23 wks.

It's entirely possible -- and reasonable-

Some years back one southern state suffered a shortage due to the rising cost of medical malpractice insurance premiums- Some physicians moved out of the state altogether while others went on strike until an agreement was reached -- during which time patients in need of surgery had to travel across state lines for procedures and treatments-

Then I should hope you would be a darn sight more careful not to get pregnant in the first place notanan. And you can say what you like about modern contraception. Fact remains no one has to get pregnant. Excluding the rapes, under age sex by silly kids etc etc which will now be dragged out by the desperate)

Those of you who cite "special circumstances only" - who should be judge and jury of that? Are you expecting women to PROVE their "special circumstances"?

Women are at the highesr risk of Domestic abuse under two circumstances: When they try to leave and when they are pregnant.

In pregnancy domestic abuse peaks/ramps up, or sometimes starts.

So you "special circumstances" lot expect women to prove their abuse before accessing a late abortion? Thus putting themselves in BOTH of the highest risk ( of death ) categories at once?

It is not! Not for the posters who would allow some women an abortion but not others... based on the womens vertue/level of blame/judgement of the woman and their reasons

That’s not desperate, that’s reality. And the only way to guarantee you don’t get pregnant is to not have sex, but people do for all sorts of reasons. No contraception is 100% effective as I’m sure you are well aware.
