Not just you MB - fellow Tory MP Rory Stewart (another leadership contender ) has said he would not serve in a BJ government. Good to see there is at least one honest Tory MP who tells it like it is. He is an intelligent man and knows full well how disastrous a no-deal brexit would be for this country.

Naturally the dogs of "brexit-at-any-cost" led by total failure Iain Duncan-Smith, have been quick to condemn him, reiterating the nonsense that the threat of a no-deal brexit can be used as a bargaining chip. What utter nonsense - it's like saying if you don't do what I want I'll shoot myself.

I do not give a damn who is the next PM.

I have been interested in politics and current affairs since I was about 4 and actively involved to a greater or lesser extent since I was 18, but over the last four years as our two main parties have descended to reduced the governance of this country to the level of a group of drunks at a stag party, my interest in the subject has completely drained away.

As I said I could not care less who heads either of the parties provide none of them have had any current involvment with the managing of their respective parties for the last 5 years. Better still let us make it impossible for anyone currently in Parliament to stand for re-election for the next 10 years and see if a parliament of complete tyros can make a better fist of it than the current lot. They certainly couldn't be any worse.

The off repeated brexiters argument about "keeping no deal on the table" does not bear logical examintion.

If you are negotiating with the seller of a house and do not get a satisfactory deal you walk away and keep your money. You are no worse off than when you started.

If you haggle with a market trader over the price of an item you might like to buy and he will not drop the price to the sum you are prepared to pay you walk away and you still have the same amount of money in your pocket. You have lost nothing.

However if we were to inflict a no-deal brexit on ourselves not only would we have lost our EU membership and all its benefits, it would irrevocably damage our economy, our security and our international reputation. It would hurt our EU partners, especially Ireland, but it would hurt us far far more and everyone knows it. There is no comparison.

Rory Stewart gives every impression of being extremely intelligent, very level headed and fair minded, and very measured. I like him. Whether he would be elected as party leader is anyone’s guess, but I think he would do the job well. Since I’m not a member of the Conservative Party, or indeed any other political party, I will simply have to watch from the sidelines and hope they make less of a hash of it this time. (Because I never did rate Theresa May as Home Secretary or Prime Minister, but then they didn’t ask me!)
