Good Morning Monday 13th July 2026
Footage showing British soldiers shooting at a large photograph of Jeremy Corbyn as target practice. I hope TM and the Defence Secretary stand up in the House today and condemn it thoroughly.
I think these occurred just after MT died, and were shown on the BBC and ITV news, I can remember seeing them, also the chanting of "ding dong the witch is dead".
Her effigy was burned at a November 5th "celebration" in, I think, Scotland, there have also been demonstrations where her effigy has been shown hanging - I don't recall where. Unfortunately, I do not note the date and place when I see or read these things and I am certainly not going to trawl the internet looking for them. Whether you believe it happened or not I do remember seeing them.
Sunseeker, could you post some links to where effigies of Theresa May are being burned, or shown hanging from a rope, as I have not seen those.
Alexa totally agree, the help is out there, some are just too proud or ashamed to ask for it.
Soldiers have to do tasks that harm them . It's very necessary to accept that post traumatic stress is real and to provide mental health care for veterans t.
trisher I am always happy to admit when I have got something wrong.......and yes the picture you have posted does indeed seem to be anchored by two clips.
Having been out all day I have only just come across this thread. First I have to say I think it was ill advised for them to use JC's picture however I don't recall the same outrage when effigies of TM were being burned, or shown hanging from a rope or when Margaret Thatcher died the street parties that were thrown and the singing of "the witch is dead". Double standards?
I forgot to mention it was one forum member who continually criticised my spelling when I first joined this forum that has kept me determined to remain on here.

It's OK MaizieD, I have lived with it all my life, and so I have become entirely immune to that type of person and their trash.
Anyway, despite the disability I have received enormous support with it from my wife for over 50 years and others when we started our own business in 2003.
You learn there are some wonderfull people in this world and then there are those such as GabriellaG54.

Many of those joining the forces are NOT poor, unqualified, nor badly brought up, but some people, male and female just feel more comfortable in an organised and structured environment. That is why many of those leaving the army go into other uniformed services like the police, prison service and security roles.
I know just one such man, now in his 40s. He left school with a good plate of O levels, chose not to A levels, but joined the army. He signed up for a short engagement, left with an exemplary record and joined the police. He has now been in the police force about 20 years and has reached a reasonably senior level. He is someone who is just more comfortable when he has clear rules to follow, in any aspect of life.
No one is defending rape, but where you have large groups of young men you have prostitutes and the presence of mixed race children is not evidence that the mother was raped. I am sure some women with mixed children were raped and others were raped who did not end up with children. But please do not be naive aboutn it.
Perhaps, also, some outrage on behalf of the many more Kenyan women raped by their own soldiers who, unofficlally at least, regularly rape women as a weapon of intimidation would not go amiss.
Opal, I was responding to your post @ 19:10pm that suggested this "target practise" was just a joke.
In my opinion, no target practise should involve persons who are in Britains political establishment at this time of crisis, or at any other time if it comes to that.
Some things are indefensible, and this act is one of them.
Thank you @ Grandad1943... that's the point that keeps getting missed (by some).
Forget it's Corbyn's face. Any politician's face from whichever party would be wrong in this current volatile climate as it could encourage the less-than-stable to be some sort of endorsement to violence.
This is not a student jape or Lads' lolz... it's the establishment training its troops, and the MoD have condemned it.
It really isn't about Corbyn at all... don't even know why I was stupid enougho get sucked into the argument defending him... he's not even my choice of leader!
Agree entirely Opal - well said [thumbsup]
Grandad 1943, I know it wasn't Hitler's face on the target - I was responding to an earlier poster who said they didn't think even Hitler's face should be used as a target. I disagree, as I'm sure would millions of lost souls during WW2.
If, as another poster stated, this is well known to be a routine and permitted training exercise (where various faces of well known people are placed on targets to improve speedy recognition and appropriate response) why is the Army not saying that and defending it?
The very fact that the Army has expressed concern and is investigating the matter seems to suggest that "it's not a big deal, it's just a piece of paper being shot at" is not an appropriate response.
@Day6
... OK, apologies for sounding patronising, on reflection, it doesc ome across that way.
But why the "dirty word coming up" then? If everyone knows already the difference betwee Patriotism and Nationalism?
For all you know, Corbyn might even consider himself a Patriot... some of his Brexit followers do?
Opal, it was not Hitler's face on that target, it was a senior member of Britains political establishment, many of who have received threats of violence against them in recent months.
Only yesterday we witnessed a person convicted of planning an attack on an MP.
Opal......well said ?
For goodness sake, get a grip people. This was an ill-advised joke between a bunch of paras, no-one's been hurt, they were a bit daft to put it on social media, but really guys? I despair sometimes, has the whole nation had a sense of humour by-pass????
And in response to an earlier post, I don't see anything wrong with putting Hitler's face on a shooting target!!!!!
Well, perhaps the following is more to the taste of a growing section of what makes up the right wing of politics in this country.
A Conservative council leader has been suspended after he re-tweeted an image describing Tommy Robinson the leader of the extream right English Defence League as a “patriot”.
Swale Borough Council leader Andrew Bowles shared a post on Twitter protesting about Robinson’s ban from Facebook and Instagram.
There are those in "high places" in the UK with some very doubtful views on what constitutes patriotism.
