Brexit is the single most divisive issue for decades. The whole country is in a total mess and whilst it's all being fought over, other urgent issues aren't being tackled adequately, or at all. Too late to grumble we should never have had any such referendum; we are here at the cliff edge. It's a long time since the political arena has been more bitter.
Re Corbyn. I know I'm in the minority here but I believe he was and still is sincere in his aims, hopes and policies and he increased the membership of the Labour party enormously. He has been undermined since his shock election as leader and there is no need to go over old ground as to why. Our interpretations and reasons differ widely. His stance on Brexit has been and continues to be poor and out of step with the membership but I also feel the whole Remain camp needed to up their game far, far earlier in the proceedings and go into exactly why it wasn't a simple matter of rhetoric, as in Taking Back Control or some misplaced nationalistic pride. We can't be members of the EU for so long and leave without massive repercussions and ramifications and that hasn't been put over adequately by Remainers.
The Gang of 7 have a perfect right to leave, of course, but their timing is pants. And now, bang on cue, we have....*fanfare of trumpets* the Return of Derek Hatton. I'm sure I'm not the only one to be utterly bewildered by this and the timing. You couldn't make it up. Am I being overly Machiavellian or does anyone else here smell a large and rotten rat?
trisher The Green Party espouse everything I hold dear and I would support them if they had a hope in hell of getting into power. There are indeed some excellent people there. I used to be a member years ago and the only reason I left was because Jeremy Corbyn became leader and suddenly socialist policies were no longer a dirty words coming from the mouth of a Labour leader. I hear the spluttering of Anniebach as I type
but I felt as invigorated and inspired as I'd felt disgust at our country being dragged into an illegal Iraq war.
I'm going off topic again but to re-iterate: Hatton - why now? Who engineered this, and for what reason? H'mmmmm.
