maryeliza I think your statement (above) perhaps depends on how you define 'right winger'. I live in a town that is politically dominated by the conservatives, so much so that locally the joke is repeated, even by them, that if you were to put a blue rosette on a pig it would win the seat for the conservative party. However, it most definitely is not true to say that they don't think there is a problem, because in my town they most certainly do. Indeed many local Tories actively support the Food Bank both through donations and by volunteering and are quite vocal in castigating a system where such places are necessary. I see and hear them expressing real anger at this government's seemingly callous attitude to people who are in need due to cutbacks and the introduction of Universal Credit.
What I can't get my head around is that these kindhearted people still continue to vote in the way they do.
