Can anybody explain Brexit please?

Anyone else noticed that the majority of name calling seems to be from the Leavers? Wish we could just all logically debate without being nasty.

Let's not forget that the majority of the population are Remainers, and that has been shown to be the case in every poll over the last eighteen months. The average of the last six polls shows an 8% lead for Remain.

Everyone, or at least everyone who has been paying attention to the brexit scenario unfold, has become better informed. They now know that any kind of brexit will damage our country and that is why this brexit nonsense should be stopped.

Your comments reveal a lot about your attitude to those who dare have a different opinion.

I find the notion that a second referendum would be undemocratic and unforgivable very strange. We have come a long way with consumer issues and we accept that if we buy something, take it home and then realise it is not what we wanted, we take it back to the shop. No questions asked. The same applies when we take out insurance policies. We then have a 'cooling off period' and can cancel the insurance and get a refund. In other words, we can change our minds.
We don't often hear that this procedure is 'undemocratic'.

I ‘m sure Nonnie there will be many more examples that could be found if one had the time (or the inclination) to look them up. I don’t (and actually all these links etc can be a bit daunting in my opinion).

My intention here was just to show a few as a ‘snapshot’ to Labaik as she asked for them, to demonstrate that our veto didn’t always work.

However there is a divergence of opinion sometimes between us and the E.U. and these examples highlight this. Once we leave we can take back control.

Urmston my laptop cable is different from the one with my previous laptop and so is DH's. Perhaps the reason for this is to do with safety?

Of course we have a problem when we may choose not know who is responsible for our failure to drop VAT to zero on vital sanitary products.

Having more than one governmental organization to blame is the result of the EU not being clear on the rights (and responsibilities) of member nations.

The United States of America is crystal clear on States' rights probably because the USA started with an agreed upon Constitution.

Many of us who wouldn't mind being in a United States of Europe (as implied by 'ever closer union') want first to understand our country's inviolable rights.

For many decades the people of Britain felt they were conned into the EU - A Federal Political controlling hub. We accepted the Common Market but have never accepted political, economic and legislative control. From year to year, the British Labour/Tory and Lib Dem parties pretended to listen to the people who expressed discontent with the EU so they pretended to say they will act... just to gain votes. In the end, Cameron put it in his manifesto, just to get elected but he had to carry it on and set a referendum date, never in his wildest dreams did he expect the leave EU vote to win the day. Thats what happened - the EXIT voters won the referendum. The vote was to leave not for deals and trickery. Being outside the EU gives Britain and its people sovereignty - Rule of Law under our on legislator (parliament) and our Supreme Court is the final arbiter. In other words... we control how we are governed. Not some bunch of unelected slime. We also voted for border control and trade deals outside the EU > WTO. Sadly the rotten MPs have played skullduggery in obedience to their money men... globalists. I think there are two main reasons why remain lost Grampie -

one - is that for decades the EU has been repeatedly blamed by all governments for their own failures whilst the successes and rights gained in and via the EU have been lauded as the our government (any colour) being brilliant.

And two - so many people were sick of Cameron that they voted leave just to give him a good poke. Like the guy on the phone-in the next day in who lived in Spain who voted leave as a protest because “it could never happen”

Of these, the first, I think is the main issue.

Our courts ruled for Gina Miller in that our Parliament must be in charge of Brexit instead of our Government.

It was one of the many ways in which Remainers tried to overturn the vote to Leave the EU.

BTW, I voted Remain but instead of overturning the result I think we should examine why we lost.

Some claim we lost because of austerity so I look at the causes of austerity and see Gordon Brown breaking his own rules for balancing taxation with spending.

He also honoured the leader of RBS as "the Shred" took more reckless risks to become the largest bank in the world.

Then came the global financial crash.

Austerity is our attempt to rebuild our public finances which is taking more than a decade to put right.

This is one of the many reasons why I see the root causes of Brexit in the Major, Blair and Brown eras when those EU treaties caused much angst and not much explanation or widespread debate.

As you say, the main-stream media didn't help either.

Is it true that it was Davies that first put forward the idea of the backstop?

Why this need to change the backstop? Leavers say the border issue will be easy to fix . If it’s so easy to fix the backstop won’t be used.

I think most of them are past caring now. They know they will be ok whatever happens.

On Today this morning we heard of all the suggested ways to change the backstop, none of them were new. I ask myself why these 'new' ideas are being batted around and, if there is something to negotiate with, why didn't they use it before? Are they all stupid? I can't really believe they are so what game are they playing? Maybe they think we are stupid?
