Do we have any good fortune tellers who can help Theresa May by forecasting what weapons Brutus (uBoris ) will use in his endeavours to generate a capitulation by uNumber 10 ?
One thing I do expect to happen is lots of smokescreens. Many snipping at Labour and many fairy stories about how we are on the road to Utopia.
As I not happy with either of the main two parties recent performances , should I seek Donald Trump’s advise?

Not sure she was handed it, so much as grabbed it with both hands... hmm

Jane10 Wed 03-Oct-18 18:08:50

Yup. She's not a quitter. Goodness knows how she can stand it all. I respect her but not her 'colleagues'.

Luckygirl Wed 03-Oct-18 18:04:06

Can't stand her politics, but I kind of feel rather sorry for her. Give her her due, she was handed a poisoned chalice (or accepted it) and she is still running with it.

MaizieD Wed 03-Oct-18 18:02:03

Yes, I am behind May all the way with the Chequers proposal.^

But, unfortunately lemon, the EU isn't. They've been telling her ever since she first came up with it. Though, perhaps if they were to find out that you are in support of it they might change their minds...

The phrase 'flogging a dead horse' comes to mind....

Jane10 Wed 03-Oct-18 17:26:50

Scotland does not want shot of the UK!! United we stand, divided we... Well you know what comes next!!

lemongrove Wed 03-Oct-18 17:21:36

Jane you could well be right!

lemongrove Wed 03-Oct-18 17:20:42

Yes, I am behind May all the way with the Chequers proposal. Corbyn has viewed to vote it down, but if ‘rogue’
Conservatives agree to support it, and some Labour MP’s do too, then it might be ok.
The EU are bound to want some changes though, so will they be acceptable changes, will have to wait and see.

Have to wait and see also as to who puts themselves forwards to take over when the time comes.

Anniebach Wed 03-Oct-18 17:12:23

You may be right Jane, Corbyn wants shot of N.I. Scotland wants shot of U.K, Corbyn will not win Scotland for Labour so will need the SNP . Happy days

www.theguardian.com/business/2018/oct/03/world-economy-at-risk-of-another-financial-crash-says-imf

You don't want anyone to take over right now- but then ... when she decides to go or is pushed?

And are you really behind her all the way with Checkers- for sure?

Agreed with you Jane- apart from Scottish voters to stay in this time. I'd hate to see the Union go- but it would be touch and ... go.

Jane10 Wed 03-Oct-18 17:06:53

My prediction : hard brexit. Country in turmoil. General election. Labour in coalition with SNP to gain power. NI thrown to the dogs. Union in doubt. Second Scottish independence referendum allowed as part of terms of coalition. Voters vote to remain in UK as not happy after 10+ years of SNP.
Disarray and disaster all round.
Time for another party? Well why not-none of the others are working!!

Anniebach Wed 03-Oct-18 17:04:23

Corbyn wants two things, key to no 10 and out of the EU

lemongrove Wed 03-Oct-18 17:01:49

May looked really happy today for the first time ever.
I agree Gill and think she more or less said that to the Conference in her speech, she was warning that faction, that if they keep going against her they would wind up with no deal or no Brexit.
Corbyn has said that Labour would vote down any deal ( no matter what it is) just for political gain ( oh yes, the six ‘tests’
Which are impossible and would be just as impossible for Corbyn and Co to get!)

jura2 Wed 03-Oct-18 16:59:00

In the meantime, don't worry- we will become a Tax Haven for the very rich ...

ooops unless the predicted world financial crash happens as is predicted- as Banks have not reformed and the level of debt is totally unsustainable.

lemongrove Wed 03-Oct-18 16:56:06

confused what are you talking about jura ??
I don’t want anybody to take over.

jura2 Wed 03-Oct-18 16:35:41

lemongrove- who would you like to take over? Can you imagine any of her backstabbers and buffoons at the helm?

Shafted you said?!

kittylester Wed 03-Oct-18 16:35:15

And what do you expect JC to do when he gets elected?

muffinthemoo Wed 03-Oct-18 16:32:47

When I look at May’s fellow senior Tories, I am always reminded of Major referring to his senior colleagues as “bastards”.

I think she must understand how he felt.

jura2 Wed 03-Oct-18 16:26:18

Yep, gold post of the day from me too Gill.

paddyann Wed 03-Oct-18 16:23:11

wish there was a LIKE button GillT57

soop Wed 03-Oct-18 16:04:32

Well said GillT57 I concur

GillT57 Wed 03-Oct-18 15:09:45

It is rather desperate tactics though to basically say that the alternative is worse, you had better stick with us. I wish more people would have more than a dig at Boris and JRM, they are toxic and anyone who believes that they care is a fool, at least Teresa May tries to look as if she cares. I do feel for her though, what an absolute shower she is surrounded by, backstabbers or creeps, what a choice. If I was her ( thankfully I am not) I would gather them all, give them an ultimatum; we either drop this whole Brexit farrago altogether and admit that it just won't work or we go to the country and Corbyn gets elected. That is what is boils down to, and I know which way I would vote. The first person on here to use phrases such as 'The Will of The People' in their answer gets a forfeit grin

Ilovecheese Wed 03-Oct-18 15:02:42

Some quite clever parts to her speech, I thought.

She at least acknowledged that there is a housing shortage without taking any responsibility for the causes.

Announcing an end to the austerity agenda, while not admitting that austerity has been a mistake in the first place.

Appealing for party unity, then having a dig at Jacob Reece Mogg for his 50 years remark, and having a dig at Boris Johnson for his anglo saxon remarks to business.

Painting Jeremy Corbyn and his supporters as a terrible threat to the country and saying something supportive to Dianne Abbot.

She seems to be almost relaxed about a no deal brexit, appealing to patriotism, and painting us as a sort of plucky little Britain.

GillT57 Wed 03-Oct-18 14:44:27

^We will prevent unskilled workers coming from the EU and will fill the gap by training British Workers^. Did anyone notice the further qualification to that statement? The government consider anyone earning under £30k per year to be unskilled. So that dumps nearly everyone who works in the public sector as being unskilled. How crass, insensitive and tactless. Bloody unbelievable. angry

Anniebach Wed 03-Oct-18 14:04:24

A very good speech, I admire her

lemongrove Wed 03-Oct-18 13:57:31

Well, really good speech today from May, just what was needed.
Nobody should think Boris is the better orator, he isn’t.
I think she has given the warring factions within pause for thought!
