Maw I am no more flogging a dead horse than brexit is a done deal.

This is the first time I have ever mentioned stockpiling and I do so only to highlight the huge gulf between the fancy pie in the sky brexit promises and the looming grim reality.

So I won't be stockpiling lemons or any other citrus fruit.

I did read some years ago though that a way to store (stockpiled) citrus fruits is to pack them in tea chests with layers of sand so that each one is separated from its neighbours. Bit like wrapping apples in paper (you all have wrapped apples off your garden trees in paper, haven't you?). Ours, cookers similar to but sweeter than Bramleys) used to last to March when we had a good crop off our single tree. And that was for a family of seven.

I adore preserved lemons and can get through jars of them. So, so good.

Will pickle any unwanted lemons on the go!!

I feel many in the Road haulage/Distribution industry view the situation at present as it being vital that frictionless border trade can be maintained following Brexit for not only the future of their business prosperity but also the key to Britains future success.

It was only last week that the leading suppliers and distribution companies were requested by the government to map their supply chains with particular reference being made to "just in time" delivery services". The results of that mapping will demonstrate the level of Britains resilience to disruption on various scales should frictionless border trade cease following Brexit.

For the UK's suppliers and Hauliers, the foregoing mapping is a huge task to undertake and the first comprehensive results may not be available for two to three months at least. However, dependent on how the figures are calculated between 44-60% of Britains trade is currently with the EU, and in that it is felt little or no delay to heavy vehicles progressing through all European ports will continue to be essential to the future of the UK in regard to its supply security and prosperity.

However, until large-scale data from the above mapping operation is available, all debate I feel on how Britain may fare in various Brexit scenarios is somewhat guesswork whether that be in regard to Britain trading under WTO rules or any other agreement.

Yes, Baggs, I have - some lasted, some didn't. The rest are in the freezer but, of course, there will be no electricity apparently, when the supplies get interrupted.

One of the problems with stockpiled food is scarcity of vitamin C. Tinned whole tomatoes , and other acidic fruits retain some vitamin C despite the canning process.

Production times may be rather long, Jalima as the copper will have to be extracted from disused mines in Cornwall and Devon if it can't be imported. It will take a while and a lot of capital to get them back into use.

Cherrytree You could rub the copper with a cut lemon dipped in salt - another use for all those pickled lemons we are stockpiling.
