With an open attack on Theresa Mays handling of the Brexit negotiations many in the media believe that Jacob Rees-Mogg has made his first open move in a bid to become Conservative party leader and Britain's next Prime Minister.
Rees-Mogg in yet another of his ongoing interviews with the media lambasted "weak" Theresa May for preparing the UK for "Brexit failure". Rees-Mogg stated that with The British negotiators going into each set of negotiations with an attitude of "we will kowtow before you, Mr Barnier in every way you possible throughout these talks" there is no hope of success for the UK. The foregoing are undoubtedly harsh words indeed even from an arch hard line Brexitier, but many believe that there is far more to Rees-Moggs words than just Brexit.
It may well be that this hard line right wing politician has witnessed the way that Jeremy Corbyn has moved the Labour party to the left and now feels he could carry out the same in the Conservative party with the exception of that move being in the opposite direction in regards to political ground.
Evidence to the above can be seen in Rees-Moggs attack on Scottish Conservative Leader Ruth Davison, for in the same interview he stated that Davison should not be allowed to marry her longtime same sex partner as planned. However, same sex marriage legislation was put before parliament and passed in 2013 under the David Cameron coalition government.
In making the above comment Rees-Mogg is undoubtedly looking to damage Ruth Davison, who also is seen as a possible next leader of the Conservative party. That stated, it is also being seen as a move against centre ground Concervatives in parliament.
In the above can be seen shades of Momentum's original moves against centre Blairite MPs in the Labour party.
I have never seen any comment on Corbyn which is libellous
Oh bother! The first two paragraphs were supposed to be in bold. Should have previewed.
Quote Jalima1108[ So if the British army brought down a foreign plane full of civilians, anyone investing money with the Bank of England and other British banks would be to blame? Is that how it works or have I misunderstood something?
That is according toGrandad] End Quote
It was actually Baggs who originally posted that I think.
You might like to familiarise yourself with the conventions of the site Grandad43
^ and ^ immediately around something you are quoting will indicate as such by putting it into italics
* and * is normally used round a username to make it appear in bold
And the square brackets [ and ] are designed for use with smileys such as

Don’t mention it, happy to help.

How about a few minutes thought for all those that perished on that airliner and from which a leading member and prospective leader of the Conservative party is making money from?
Apart from a superfluity of “froms” I think this is the post in which Grandad implies JRM has directly profited from that incident.
I carry no torch for JRM but casting aspersions of this sort could be interpreted as libellous.
Baggs, the investment under particular question is Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank. JRM Is co-founder of and a major shareholder in Somerset Asset Management which he is not directly involved in managing but obviously receives major income from the profits of the company. Those profits are large part derived from its Russian procurement of clients funds into the above Russian bank and other organizations in that country under sanctions.
By not being involved in the day to day management of the company, JRM does not for some reason I cannot figure out have to declare on the parliamentary register of members interest his involvement and income from the company.
When was Somerset Asset Management set up? When did it begin trading with Sberbank?
I could look these things up but I'm asking because of the claims you are making. I think it is wrong to make such claims without properly backing up everything you say.
Anyway, I am still in the office after sitting around all afternoon waiting for an outcome on a matter which eventually turned out successful without me contributing further.
So, an interesting afternoon posting on GN. I wonder if I am the first forum member to receive a salary for posting on GransNet.
Sounds tenuous to me, given that Sberbank is State owned.
Sberbank is a state-owned Russian banking and financial services company headquartered in Moscow. The company was known as "Sberbank of Russia" until 2015. Sberbank has operations in several European and post-Soviet countries. (Wikipedia)
Now I know I said “Don’t mention it” but I had rather thought you might. Manners and all that
So, offfor something to eat, goodnight all
He owns 20% of the company , is that being a major shareholder ?
Oh a speedy exit,
Oh sorry, many thanks MawBroon. Only the second forum I have ever joined so still learning.
How does one receive a salary for posting on GransNet ? I would love to know
SAM was set up in 2007. Plane shot down over Ukraine in 2014.
If a government applies sanctions to trade with another country do they only apply to new deals after the sanctions are imposed? I'm guessing they would because making them apply retrospectively could be monstrously difficult.
If SAM isn't doing anything illegal re sanctions, what's the problem?
Grandad1943, please explain who pays you to post on this forum? I am really concerned to learn this .
“He who pays the piper calls the tune”
Only the second forum I have ever joined so still learning
Ça se voit..
My pleasure. .
I think he means he's posting on GN while being paid to do something else, annie.
Thanks baggs x. I felt troubled , so he meant he was posting on Gransnet whilst being paid to work , silly me.
Surely not Anniebach hardly the most ethical behaviour?
People have been sacked for less.
I most certaintly wouldn’t do it Maw, I think this is why it didn’t occur to me, I thought he Meant some political group were paying him.
MawBroon, in the pub now, but being at one time the sole owner of the company, now 25% owner and acting in an advisory role it is hardly likely I will be sacked.
I am treating the team that have spent many successful hours in what culminated this afternoon to a drink and a bite to eat they thoroughly deserve.
Just had the feeling that you would require further knowledge MawBroon
Goodnight.
Not really, don’t interrupt your ??? on my account.
We're still awaiting a response from Janina
Is she a new poster?
There really is a pattern, isn't there? With a couple of exceptions, men just don't get GN. Mansplaining, innuendo and inappropriate comments - they inevitably creep in after a few posts.
Good luck to the few 'good guys' who do manage to get themselves on the right wavelength!
