Corbyn popped into a cafe in Newcastle yesterday,accompanied by only a couple of people. He was photographed with staff and chatted to everyone. Can you imagine Theresa doing that?

John McDonnell seems to be distancing himself from Corbyn again. He said on Peston that he agreed with Theresa May about Putin.

The PM runs the country, the leader of other parties only have to race around the country canvassing for votes.

If the PM popped into a cafe this would involved security guards, a PM cannot pop around the country in and out of cafe's for photo shoots, every movement has to involve high security , regardless of who is PM.

I vote Labour and am not afraid to disclose it. I do so in order to be above board about my political leanings. I am not ashamed of my political views or my past voting record. I am aware that disclosing my support of Labour will mean that my comments will be considered in the light of my political leanings.

If we could be identified on this site, i.e. our names and addresses available to all and sundry, I can perhaps understand why some people are reluctant to discuss their past and current political affiliations, but unless we choose to provide lots of personal information and a photograph in our Gransnet profiles, we are anonymous on here. So why are people so cagey about disclosing who they vote for?

I always understood that how, and who, you vote for was a personal thing and not to be disclosed in general. But it's an entirely personal decision and you if you're happy to do so, that fine. But I think if someone doesn't want to reveal their voting history, that should be respected too. I have friends that I've had for over 40 years and I have no idea who they have voted for and I would never dream of asking them because its too personal a question.

I find it strange that people forget that they said they would never and have never voted labour.
They get very coy when asked.

Because anyone who said they were a Tory voter would get slaughtered by the far left here. I am a Labour Party member but have no problem with Tory supporters , they like me vote for a party they think will be right for the country. I remember a far left supporter saying anyone voting Tory want children hungry and people homeless , I do not agree or believe this . A .Lib voter would be ignored .

I don't know any far left supporters.

For me, every piece of personal information I've disclosed has been used in an ad hominem attack. Why would I disclose anything else?
Perhaps ask the people who do it why they act that way.

Personally speaking, I don't find the political threads per se tedious; just some of the postings.

Humans have a inate instinct to fit in, so every time we go against the collective opinion we put our selves in the fireing line. Thick skins are need to protect our egos, so we either become very domineering & singleminded refusing to see another point of view, or we don’t put our heads above the parapet. Being on an relatively anonymous site such as this allows all us to give our opinion within a relatively safe environment,without exposing our true identities or backgrounds.Therfore protecting our egos,ethos & circumstances from further judgements & assumptions.

Except, of course when we have already given information on our backgrounds.
