The idea that we shouldn't reference people who are more knowledgeable than we are seems a very odd one. Do people actually want to remain ill-informed or do they just think they know better than everyone else? Some seem to wear this "I don't do links" etc., like a badge of honour.
It's not as is politics is the same as whether you prefer tea or coffee - there are other threads for that sort of chat. Politics, perhaps particularly currently, are complex and, as there are many political sources we can draw on to explain, extend our knowledge etc., sharing that knowledge is surely a good thing.
Accurately referencing your source helps others decide what and how much they want to take from it as does making it clear that something is just your "out of thin air" opinion.
