If the job description had included the words "must be prepared to be groped and deal with men exposing themselves" how many of those women would have taken the job Annie? If the job description is accurate that's fine. It wasn't.
You seem to be the one with the age obsession I didn't mention it.
Some of them were hoping the event would give them the opportunity to network with rich men and further their careers. Some women were not groped that doesn't mean no one was.
But your opinion is confused Annie certainly women can accept jobs in any area, but why should a hostess be groped any more than a supermarket shelf stacker should? Because one encounters men with money and the other doesn't?

The President's Club Annual Gala - "Men Behaving Badly"
(660 Posts) I expect this is going to divide opinion, but what's your take on the Men Only charity event that's all over the news. However, for those not familiar, a bevy of young women, many of them students, were recruited through an agency for this event, they had to be slim and good looking they were told to wear sexy shoes and black underwear to go under the very skimpy dresses provided. They also had to sign a five page disclaimer, which they didn't get to read and weren't given a copy of. A couple of female undercover FT journalists were also amoung these young women and testified to appalling behaviour by SOME of the male guests. To give a flavour of the offers guests were asked to bid for "Plastic surgery to spice up the Mrs"
Jess Phillips gave a very good speech in Parliament imo saying these young women who were expected to act as hostesses "were merely bait" Personally I find it sickening that the guise of charity is used as a way to negate the bad behaviour in this sort of evening. I believe some of the high profile charities such as GOSH have told the now defunct Presidents' Club, where to stick their money.
I am not confused as to what the women's choices were. They choose these jobs because they prefer them to jobs which pay far less. You forget some phoned into a London radio programme saying it was not as the reporter claimed .
I think everyone has the right to choose the work which suits them, if a politician , cleaner or walk on girl. Those girls were free to leave the hotel, they chose not to. It has been claimed here they were naive young students, I do not accept that.
You claim to know the ages of the men, I assume you looked up the list of guests as did dj then checked their ages.
I do not support women being groped , I accept there are women who don't mind if they earn more money that they would in a supermarket .
My opinion and I am free to express it.
Annie but supporting women who choose to earn their money this way
You seem to be confused about what the women's choices were. You have posted about how they shouldn't dress provocatively but having done so should then put up with the behaviour what ever it might be. No one who works as a hostess should expect to be groped or assaulted. In fact no-one should be groped or assaulted by anyone and this idea that in accepting a hostess role you must also accept any form of bad behaviour that goes with it is wrong on so many levels. Serving drinks and chatting does not mean you invite men to grope you. Many years ago factory workers were seen as being available if the bosses wanted, things have moved on. Having more money does not give a man any rights over a woman's body.
Oh how true Annie
Not all women reach the politics, business and the professions position. Still there is always McDonalds or cleaning or supermarket shelf filling .
Easy for Jess Phillips who studied at university to want to stop a woman's choice of work.
How easy to lecture from a great height to those who cannot reach the same height.
In an employment climate where many people - and particularly younger people - are struggling financially and have difficulty finding anything other than low paid jobs - any better paid jobs will be taken up.
I think in this day and age when there is growing concern about the objectification of women and increasing numbers of sexual crimes occurring within younger and younger age groups, it is unacceptable for women to be used, as Jess Phillips put it, as "bait" for men to attend functions and exhibitions, pay admittance to clubs, buy cars and boats, etc, etc.
Once upon a time, the same argument - freedom of choice, employment opportunities, etc. etc - was used to justify televising (and thus legitimising) the Miss World event. But, rather than complain that women's employment opportunities are being damaged, we should - I think - ensure that women have equal opportunities and pay in every area of employment, including business, politics and the professions - something which is definitely not happening at the moment.
I heard a different view point last night, not supporting women being groped but supporting women who choose to earn their money this way, seems this naive student argument is untrue, very attractive girls choose to be walk on girls, very good pay , the demand by feminists to stop this line of work affects the women not the men, no more appearances at darts matches, car exhibitions etc.
Suppose these girls should now look for work as cleaners , plenty of well educated feminists in good jobs need cleaners.
Thanks Eloethan
Why would anyone question why there is no police investigation? How many women are groped or sexually harassed and make the decision to get on with life rather than put themselves in the firing line of the press? I've lost count of the number of women I have met who made exactly that decision.
Concern for the women involved has been expressed by posters who also express concern about the continued objectification of women.
Good grief, scouring papers for the names and for photographs . No one who has questioned why there is no police investigation , no arrest for indecent exposure , no concern for the women who choose to be walk on girls for very good money and are now out of work.
anniebach Previously on this thread you, and others, were saying that women should be able to take up whatever employment they wished without being judged. Now you say "... such a pity some do not have respect for their own bodies".
My own view is that women should be able to take up employment without it being assumed that in doing so they are accepting that men have paid for the right to verbally, physically or sexually abuse them.
As for the notion that "this sort of male behaviour has always been around and always will be", I disagree. At one time women had no right to access to their children if they divorced, no right to work after marriage, no right to obtain a mortgage in their sole name, no right to refuse sex within marriage, no right to equal pay and treatment within the workforce, etc. etc. etc. It is only because women (and some men) challenged this that things changed- but there is still much that needs to be done.
It even gives you the table numbers so you can see who was sitting with whom, while you are drinking your coffee.
360 members there, apparently. 33 years running, David Mellor has resigned due to the scandal. Just read that from "the sun" wink
I don't need to be psychic.
Jalima said you don't scour the tabloids. I was just being helpful to her.
Not quite sure what the rest of your post means, so I'll just not be so helpful in future.
By the way, if you do your own search you can get the full list from Financial News, Jalima, without paying.
Are you psychic, Jen? That's amazing! I won't be responding to anything else you say, so knock yourself out. Go for it.
There's a list in the Guardian.
Some of you just want to be spoonfed, then call it fake news.
MissAdventure obviously looks at the s*n.
See, fake news! Ah yes. Meller, that's the one.
I think it is David Meller, not to be confused with David Mellor (subject of a scandal years ago if I remember).

You have to pay to access the link djen
Marilyn Monroe?
I didn't specify how interested I'd be. I'll produce a graph next time to demonstrate.
Quite a few people have been named, MissAdventure, so you can't have been that interested, or you would have known.
perhaps MissA doesn't scour the tabloids
Neither do I so I don't know apart from what I've read on here and heard a bit on the tv news, the two politicians and David Walliams and someone called Cary of the plastic surgery fame.
My interest only just got piqued, Jen. I blame the mention of Gino De Campo for that.
Quite a few people have been named, MissAdventure, so you can't have been that interested, or you would have known.
Is there a guest list anywhere? No doubt i'll be called sad, but I'm interested to see who was there. Then I can clutch my pearls whilst reading it.
You can't keep them in your house gilly, you can't give them to a charity shop, they would have to close down. Good that you don't live in Wales, a bonfire be impossible all this rain. ?
