Why on earth did May choose David Davis to negotiate for us in Europe?
She had lots of legal MPs to choose from.
Maybe all the lawyers and economists in parliament voted to stay in.

I have just read an article in Evolve Politics which says that TM has appointed a Baron Calnan to the Brexit bunch - he was an MEP for the NE and lost his seat in the last election. He wants to get rid of most of worker's rights - such as paid holidays and maternity/paternity entitlement and also many health and safety laws.

Within the article is a link to a speech he gave in the EU about it.

Going to England tomorrow- and for the first time ever- my heart is not singing. Can't wait to see friends, and especially daughters and grandchildren- but for the first time ever, I do not feel as though I am 'going home'.

We always were 'going home' when going to UK, and 'going home' when we came to Switzerland - it was wonderful, truly and totally feeling at home in 2 very different places. Sad- tragic even. And I know, some of you will not understand at all.

I understand completely Jura - we were exactly the same. We were in UK in October and this year going back for Christmas - so middle of December.

jura2 I understand perfectly how you feel. I felt it (though in a lesser and less sad way) when we lived for several years in a Yorkshire town which had very little to recommend it. Only when we turned off the A1 when we came back from holidays I knew that I had a good 95% of the year in which to live there... At least you only have a few weeks here

Not quite the sort of person I had in mind to support Davis. He is said to be abrasive, and rub people up the wrong way.

Is Jonathan Arnott still an MEP? I've never heard of him for ages.

He sounds to me like a stereotype gritty NE tory who will cut the crap and get to the essentials fast. At least, I should imagine that that's the thinking behind this.

And, at long last, they actually have appointed someone who knows a bit about the EU

And, I suspect, that his thinking is not very far removed from that of a great many NorthEasteners.

Regardless of how many people end up workless because of it.
Corbyn was in Consett yesterday, talking about Universal Credit with Laura Pidcock and the CAB, making much more sense.

All Brexiteers should read that, Welshwife.
May and Davis imply that all the laws from the EU will be transported to the UK en masse, via the repeal bill, which presumably includes human rights. That article shows that is a deliberate lie.

I see it also gives a link to the 450 amendments in the repeal bill.

The key point is this; the letter that the Prime Minister sent to trigger Article 50 can be withdrawn if the British people change their minds. And from President Macron to Donald Tusk, European leaders agree.

New facts are coming to light that nobody could have known about at the time of the referendum. As we move forward, the public have the right to know that they can still take a different view. They should not be misled into thinking they can’t.

Been trying to catch up with the weekend papers all day.

It seems that Gove and Johnson have staged a bit of a coup and making demands of Maybot re a hard Brexit.
Wonder if there is anyone strong enough in the cabinet to resist them. Maybot certainly isn’t,

Why the hell she doesn’t get shot of Johnson? He’s nothing but a pain in the ass, running constant leadership contests with her. We know she detests him. At least therein lies reasonable judgement.

It's Gove who is going to run against her. That's why he's being so pleasant at the moment.

Wonder if he’s got the support? It is interesting as I can remember that at one time he catagorically ruled himself out as leader saying that he realised he was not leader material.

Tory rebels seem to be finding sufficient spine to hopefully defend the U.K. against a disastrous Brexit, as well as the amendments to the Repeal Bill.

One thing that has struck me, in Maybots grand announcement that we are leaving on 29march 2019. What price the parliamentary voice in all this? She makes the daftest decisions. Look how the premature A50 got her in deep doo doo and continues to do so.

I wonder if this wretched government understands how fragile the peace in NI is? A pipe bomb found yesterday shows that very little is needed to start the troubles off again.

The GFA must not be compromised under any circumstances.
