I must admit that I agree about her 'luck' with the cough, etc. If these things had not happened we would have had all the pundits reporting on the thinness of ideas in the speech and the fact they seemed to be offering Labour light.

My late mother observed that when a female politician was having a rocky patch the knives would be drawn far faster than if the politician was a male. She was right about Edwina Curry and Thatcher. All Curry did was tell the truth. Imagine that! I think the only things delaying those Tory knives now are 1/ she could take the blame for the brexit disaster 2/ there are no strong candidates for a replacement 3/ they are terrified of an election. Not inconsiderable, so she might hang on in there despite the awful election and her weak and wobbly leadership.

DJ ENGLAND doesn't NEED its own parliament.Westminster is more than 80% English Mp's ,it makes it almost impossible for the other nations to get anything THEY want through parliament....and thats how WM likes it.Just watch them try to claw back the powers already devolved once Brexit happens.They dont like anyone having a say but them .62% of the Scottish vote was REMAIN yet we cant even have a voice in the discussions....thats Westminster saying we're second class citizens with no voice and it makes my and millions of others blood boil !

Yes, paddyann, but if England had a separate parliament where only English things were discussed, and Westminster could only discuss things that related to all four countries, wouldn't it make things more even and get rid of some of the anomalies and animosity?
We would then HAVE to separate out those things that were parochial from those that were truly uniting us.

Oh, and there should be proper devolution of powers. We would have to decide about transport, roads, education, the health and care service, etc., in all four separate countries, or decide that they should be truly federal.

When talking about devolution and the separate countries, as someone living in London, which is a global city, with a much larger population than Scotland, Wales or N Ireland, I feel London should have a lot more independence.
London also voted strongly Remain.

I think there is a forum asking for devolution for London.
There might even be a petition.

If London had devolution, that might be a good idea, because the rest of us could have our money back and not support the south so much.

facts o people. England makes up 85% of UK and already has the lions share of everything. London dominates England - even the UK. It is also the richest because all the money is there. Of course you shouldn't let it be independent, it has responsibilities along with all its rights. It's just a waste of space and energy to get involved with such silliness. EXIT BREXIT is not at all silly and it is worth the fight in buckets.

What I find really bizarre is that so much is being published about the argument for reasons for staying in EU, with very, very little being published about the reasons for withdrawing. None of it makes sense and leaves me utterly bewildered as to the mindset of Brexiters.

I can’t believe that they are all being fooled by the lies, that they are willing to believe all the propaganda given out by the wealthy hedge fund managers and tax avoiders -for they are the only ones who stand to benefit.

Apparently the Treasury have found billions to be used in case of a bad Brexit - blimey and they were worried about what is paid to the EU.

London is not England though grannygranby . Yes I agree all of the money is there, but what about the rest of us?
Those of us who don't benefit from the wealth of London or the free prescriptions, tuition fees etc. enjoyed by Scotland etc.

gillybob haven't you yourselves to blame for the situation re tuition fees etc ? You voted for a government that opposes these things..we in Scotland voted for a government thats left of centre ..thats interested in the people who put them in power.They work FOR us not against us as the tories are doing .This is SUPPOSED to be a union ...although it wasn't ever what the people of Scotland wanted we were signed up to a UNION ...equal apparently ...though thats not what it turned out to be .Please fight for ENGLISH independence and let us get n with running our country OUR way...which has never been the tory way

Paddyann, I was reading today that tuition fees cost the government more now that they have increased them to £9000 than they did when they were just £3000 a year.
IFS research says that the system is "more expensive to the taxpayer than it would have been if there had been no changes in 2011".
They can't blame Labour for that.
