Let's not forget Brexit

I can't wait for Brexit and I really can't understand why anyone of the gransnet generation doesn't think the same. You all sound like mumsnetters!! If it was so great being in the EU, I expect the rest of the world would be queuing up to get in. How ever do other countries manage their own affairs without Mr Juncker telling them what to do!!!

Maybe a lot of 'other countries' [the ones we will probably be trading with in the future] wouldn't be allowed in the EU because their human rights record isn't up to scratch?eg Turkey; you know the country that Johnson said was about to join the EU even though it wasn't and then tried to help them to join in order to prove himself right...[or something like that]

I really can't understand why anyone of the gransnet generation doesn't think the same.

Perhaps some of us have not found the EU to impinge on our lives in any way that interferes with them or makes them difficult.

And perhaps some of us are able to understand the complexities of living in a world which is quite different from the one that existed pre-EU membership.

And perhaps some of us haven't believed the constant dripfeed of lies about the EU over the years.

Whatever it is, quizqueen, not everyone thinks like you thankfully Get over it...

I read the first few pages of this thread and discovered it was for Remainers only, fearing the worst as they have from day one. Talk about doom and gloom. I was smiling to myself.

No one in Brussels wants us to break away without a struggle. No one is allowed to leave or to upset the apple cart so no wonder we are meeting obstructions at every turn.

It didn't take a genius to know Brussels and EU dignitaries would be critical and unwilling to make the process easy. Agreement will be VERY hard to reach, that's for sure. I am not at all surprised and admire May for her steadfastness.

I am of the opinion that this is a time of adjustment and some uncertainty. It always was going to be a difficult transition.

It would seem that Remainers feel all is lost and absolutely nothing will change their minds. They cannot accept we are leaving. They hate it. They seem to almost delight in feeding off PREDICTIONS of a difficult future - when all we have are predictions.

Time will tell. Brexit could signal the beginning of the end for the EU and this is of course what Brussels elite are terrified of. No one is allowed to break away. We are all unified...yes we are. Even the Catalans. No dissent allowed! You can feel the fear from Brussels, and like you I await the day they no longer have us in their stranglehold.

Blimey; and I thought us remainers were supposed to be the paranoid ones [shocked]...

No, you Remainers are hugging every bit of Brexit scepticism to your chests for comfort it would seem...

Carry on. This thread made for quite amusing reading when I realised it was mainly for Remainers to list all the ways in which the UK was doomed because of the referendum. A more gloomy group I have yet to meet.

Why not just hope for the best? You might hate the process but it's happening.

It just might be OK. The truth is you can lament about perceived losses all you like. Until the deal is done and we've had time to stabilise none of us knows how we'll fare economically.

Even if we'd stayed in the EU no one would be able to accurately predict our economic health in 2025..or indeed the way of the world then.

Why trouble trouble, as my mother used to say, unless of course you get a kick from pessimism?

For goodness and sanity's sake. We've been inside the European Union for40 years ONLY! How the hell d'you think we got along before it....we did have an empire across one third of the world you know. You make it sound like we're all gonna slip and slide our sat back into primeval slime. Get a grip ... the only reason younger people are running scared is because all they've known is European Community. Some community!

The Leadsoms and Johnsons of this world wil not be affected by it, will still be wealthy, and their children will be fine. You can polish a turd as much as you like but it's still ....

I absolutely agree. Such vital information cannot be withheld from the Commons -the government must be forced.

The EU is in a mess. Germany has no government, Spain is divided and the whole place is struggling with the influx of immigrants.

Yes the EU has affected our lives. One in 4 first time home buyers is Polish. At our primary school the 4 mums round me were taking in an East European language.

The UK is in a mess, because of Brexit, not because of the EU. Sorry some feel threatened by hearing people speaking a different language. Would you rather live in a country people would like to come to or one where people want to escape from ? Just a thought.

I think some who voted remain will never get over the result, no let's not forget Brexit let's get on with it, it's going to happen thank goodness.

The EU are dragging their many feet on this, but they will have to come round to an agreement at some time, whether they like it or not.

Yes they are dragging their feet because of the divorce money, they hate us because we want to leave but will miss our money, that's all they are interested in.

A majority of Catalans do NOT want to leave Spain! Read the reports giving numbers of voters and percentages! The great rush of other EU countries to leave has not happened and so far the parties who were advocating this have been soundly beaten in elections in the relevant countries!! Marine Le Pen has now decided that she no longer wishes France to leave the EU - in all the French press at the time.
Brexiteers seem to just get all their info from the Daily Fail and look no further. With some of these papers if you read past the headline the story is often a different one and you wonder what the headline had to do with it.
You are now stating that people who are genuinely worried about the possibilties of what might happen are completely wrong and have no concrete evidence about what will happen - what concrete evidence can you Brexiteers give us that these fears ARE wrong and concrete evidence of what WILL happen to give us the land of milk and honey - even if there needs to be a waiting period which will see many of us dead. You cannot go back to how it was before the EU was formed as the whole world has moved on since then and not waited for Britain to try and go back to how it was.

So you don't post on the "first few pages" Day6 and no one posts supporting your views and you blame this on those who do post. It appears it is all about you doesn't it.

This is exactly why I challenge the cognitive ability of people who voted to leave - not all of them but certainly the ones who come out with such illogical comments.
