I don't think it will wash though. He refused to answer questions, read off a script and like numerous times before this was a second go at commenting about an issue where his first attempt was highly criticised.

And a very definite statement it was! Only it should have been two days ago.....

Trump has been forced to confront/criticise the white supremacists, by reading out a statement about Charlottesville, after a torrent of criticism over the weekend.

Our country was great to begin with. Yes people were sick of politicians and corruption but show me a country that doesn't have that. What his slogan should have been is" Make our country better !

Well we now have a death of two young women. Both who abhorred the type of division and hate the right wing populism is encouraging.

This represents the direct effect of nationalism. It is too easy for those responsible for encouraging this idea of taking back control and putting your country first to shake their heads and mutter such platitudes as is deemed appropriate for the occasion without seeming to take responsibility.

Joe Cox and Heather Heyer will stand as a constant reminder of what could happen to our countries if we allow the jingoism and hatred to continue as it has done so loudly over the past two or more years.

If they want to 'take our country back' shouldn't they give it back to the Native Americans and disperse themselves throughout [sp] the world? I saw an interview with Dustin Lance Black last night [had never heard of him before to be honest] and he said Trumps way of gaining power was purely one of divide and rule and he doesn't actually believe in anything.

'Take our country back'. A phrase as vacuous and meaningless as 'Take back control'. And giving people much the same sesnse of permission to hate.

I trust that some posters are conscious of the irony.

David Duke and the Nazis really seem to like Donald Trump. Nazis are a lot like cats. If they like you, it’s probably because you are feeding them.

There are parallels with the UK.

But Trump is in a league of his own. The only compensation is that everything changes and this will pass. But it is the damage being done in the meantime.

NigglynellieI watched it happen. Some people were so fed up with politicians they figured he was different, a successful businessman and they were ready for a change. Of course the haters liked him like the KKK because as I said above he spouted hate at his rallies. And let's not forget that Hillary got 3 million more popular votes than him . The people wanted her but the ridiculous electoral college made him president. It's time for that to go.

Quite roses! I think most people in the UK are at a loss to understand how DT ever got into the position of even being considered a candidate, never mind actually winning the presidential election. As you said it's something that could never happen here.

Rhinestone it would help if people like Trump who have no experience of politics could never even be considered for a Presidential role.That couldn't happen in the UK.

When T was running for president the hate groups supported him. How will he get re elected in three years if he condemns them now?
What irks me is that he displayed hate himself during our primaries. He made fun of a disabled person, Said Mexican immmigrants were rapists and drug dealers, tweeted that black people were responsible for killing most of the whites and Muslims needed to leave the country. And that's only some of what he has done. I'm not even going into his genital grabbing of women theory. His motto was" Make America Great Again." But he has made America hate. He has undone every value and moral that I spent teaching to children. Can you imagine ? I used to teach government. How would I explain this fiasco?

I wonder how they do handle such contradictions?

You'd think the white supremists in America would look at all the black athletes winning gold medals for them and have a light bulb moment about how 'superior' they really are .

Rhinestone you have my sympathy. Trump is such an embarrassment with his semi-literate tweets, rhetoric and posturing. Let's hope someone reins him in or better still brings him down. He has exposed, exploited and encouraged the racist underside of the US but we do recognise that sadly we all have this underclass in our country too.

What the world seems to forget is that during the Korean War in the 1950s the USA blitz bombed North Korea (much as it did in Vietnam a decade later) and this is why the Koreans display such fear, paranoia and hatred towards the US. Yes, I'm aware that 'they' started it by invading the south, but was still a horrendous overkill.

It is the memory of this that has led to the development of nuclear weapons by the current dictator.

Why can't these fears be allayed by a Non-Agression Pact signed between North Korea, South Korea, the US and other parties in the region?

That would at least be a start.
