jen; I think he still has a job because he keeps a low profile. The S.O. and I often turn to each other and say 'hmm, haven't seen/heard of Jeremy Hunt for days/weeks/months'.

He has been talking this morning and stating the obvious. I cannot believe a government that has been in power for so long can get away with this. He has discovered that people now have complex needs and there is burnout among GPs.

Surely Hunt is still in position because he is busy privatising the N.H.S. and no doubt many of the Tories own the companies being awarded the contracts and raking in the money. Or am I just being cynical?

Listening to the radio. Austerity has taken our prisons back to the Victorian era. We are rapidly becoming one of the less civilised countries.

Anyone else noticed the government are trying to release a few announcements that make them a little less gruesome. Energy price cap for example. And a really feeble one about energy efficiency of housing. And a £25 bursary for GPs who are willing to train in areas where they can't get GPs. May has obviously told he cabinet to come up with a few bits of window dressing to make it look as if they care about ordinary people, the environment etc. Wonder what we'll get next week?
Here are some suggestions:
Environment: more beavers to be introduced in the West Country to discourage flooding
Health: An in-depth review of the effects of cutting the bursary for trainee nurses.
Education: a broad consultation on the impact of the new curriculum on working class white kids
Justice: bedtime cocoa for all prisoners
Work and Pensions: an impact study on the effects of Universal Credit on employment rates in deprived areas.

When the government use the term "increased funding" they mean they have given more money to schools or NHS - but not enough to cover their rising costs. Simple example: teachers get an increment every year, so if the increased funding to a school is less than the increased salary bill, then the school is worse off and has to make cuts. And most of their money is spent on staff, so staff cuts...
