As the article says, we all like a trier and none are more trying than Diane Abbott.

I don't remember any Britain bashing as such - he did speak out often on the lack of black faces at the BBC. I though he was mistaken with that, rather the BBC could do with recruiting more people from working class backgrounds and that would encompass more black people.
Too much nepotism and jobs for the boys.
I would like to be given an example of Lenny Henry's Britain Bashing. My limited knowledge of him is mainly based on his charity work and support for organisations such as and Comic Relief.Or maybe it's ok for a white comedian to be critical of Britain but not a black one? Please educate me in this matter.
I found your comment about Lenny Henry rather snippy merlotgran Criticising the way one has been treated is not necessarily bashing..just saying it as it is. It can make those who have not had that experience feel uncomfortable and rather defensive.
Yes, I've read it, dj and like others on here condemn the vile abuse. I wasn't shocked by the article - I'd read similar content elsewhere and I'm not a Jack Munroe devotee.
I admire DA's achievements but not her politics. She reminds me of Lenny Henry who went through a period of Britain Bashing before he realised it was damaging his career and now he has a knighthood!
Clever!
I wish her well as far as her health is concerned.
I read some of it but it made me feel sick. These people should be tracked down, appear before the courts and imprisoned. Cowards.
She looks tired and run down, I wouldn't be at all surprised if she is actually quite unwell. Like many post menopausal women she's piled on some weight and again the menopause can give some of us brain fog, she's my age and I know how I have been affected. I definitely think there's some underlying health problem that we don't know about. Having said all that I'm not a fan of hers.
I have read it and stand by what I say.
Ironically, I would not have been aware of the obscene tweets if they had been denied the oxygen of publicity. Twitter has a lot to answer for too.
Sadly, when a person is in a position of power, one's sympathy for their health must be tempered by reality of their ability to do the job. A surgeon with PD or MS has to give up surgery at the point, or indeed before, his patients are put at risk.
In every way DA was damaging the Labour party's campaign and by extension the Labour Party by her apparent inability to respond to interview questions. So struggling on did nobody any good and served to damage her own reputation as a fearless and intelligent politician. The powers that be should have stepped in before they did, for DA's own protection as well as damage limitation.
Read the link and the abuse it contains in the tweets. I cannot seem to get it so I can copy and post the tweets and the foul language used.
In this situation every one should read it.
Poor woman she seems to be ill but had an important role at this stage in the election. She had to consider her position. To continue on behalf of the party or to look after her own health and gets criticised whatever.
Much opposition she has faced is probably because. (a) a woman and (b) A black woman.
So whatever she does stay on ill or withdraw will create criticism whatever she chooses to do and a bit more criticism as she is a woman and black.
The abuse she has been recieving is appalling and we all need to read it. You do need to read this blog to see what pressure she is under with or without ill health.

For the last time....
I think the sort of abuse DA has received is unforgivable and says more about the tw*ts who write it than anything about her.
However, her achievement is not in question, but it is the current change in character, in articulacy, in mental capacity which is all the more worrying in the light of her career to date.
The self appointed Oracle has spoken
Win or loose I've a feeling they would be a whole sight better without that sort of support whitewave.
If Labour lose the election, will you be supporting them again annie?
Rigsby, could you try to be less coarse mouthed?
Have you read it, merlot? I hope so, as you are not a pearl clutcher.
Much more important is what you think of people who think it's okay to direct their bile at Diane Abbott like that, rather than what you think of what I said.
Thank you for posting the link DJ. Truly humbling to read of all DA's achievements and the vile tweets she has to contend with. Well done JM for writing that excellent blog. I had no idea JM was suffering so much also.
In the last few days I've had a problem with a phishing attempt and a rogue TV repair man and got totally hysterical and bogged down in feeling sorry for myself. I feel ashamed in light of what these two women have coped with on a daily basis. Respect to them and anyone who is subject to such vile threats and comments.
Well I think anyone who comes on here to slag off DA should be forced to read what she has had to put up with for years - and what many many women in public life have to endure.
Unfair merlotgran. You may not clutch your pearls (or even wear them) but there will be at least some who will think it right to do so when it comes to language they don't find acceptable. There is a bound to be a breadth in what members think is acceptable and unacceptable and Jen was thinking of them.
I think with the warning and the link, i.e., don't click if you think it will be a problem, you can put reasonably extreme stuff on without ruffling too many feathers.
Unfortunately it seems that there is only one side of that case that i can find. You Annie will say because there is not 'other side' but there may be. It may be that JC did not want a public argument with a person undergoing cancer treatment o did not repudiate her story.
Oh FFS - change the bloody record.
He wasn't sympathetic to the MP who was suffering from breast cancer,
We are not privy to the support/ advice DA may or may not have been offered/given by the Labour leadership. Those who want to be venomous about JC will suggest he has been remiss in not to take her off the campaign if she was ill and make it a reason not to vote Labour.
Whatever you think of JCs politics he does seem to be a caring man, so find it unlikely he deliberately ignored the needs someone who was ill.
Wherever it was first posted should have removed it then it would not still be circulating - is that Twitter?
So glad I don't twit.
well, if it's on the internet for everyone to see I have no idea why it should be removed.
