UK Government Environment Ministers are considering bringing in a Deposit Return Scheme for plastic bottles, with the aim of increasing the proportion of plastic bottles that are recycled and decreasing the proportion that pollute the seas or end up in landfill.
Germany already runs such a scheme successfully, resulting in a plastic bottle recycling rate of 98.5%
Coca Cola is objecting to this idea as it fears its profitability will be harmed.
Here is a link to a petition to urge UK Government Ministers to go ahead with the Scheme.
