The last Trump thread has run out of space. I suspect we need a new one. As he steams through his first week issuing royal edicts on a range of things and asserting that he will build a wall, how will politicians in Washington react to his fascist agenda along with his apparently immature and decidedly dodgy personality?
How do you know what the Queen thinks about the people she meets? Have either of you read the petition? It's gained 79000+ signatures in the past hour. One of the next trending one is this, on ringfencing the NHS from trade deals, in case anyone wants to sign that one, too.
Nichols' thread is aimed at US citicpzens, of course, but the questioning bit is useful for anyone who's interested, if only to take a bit of the sting out of them.
But he is the legitimately elected head of state of a country which holds free elections! I am not sure that a petition to stop him meeting OUR head of state is likely to cut any ice.
She has met other heads of state and dealt with them - they go home thinking that she is the best thing since sliced bread, but she has their measure.
Thanks petition signers. I thought it was a bit rough HM would be on the receiving end of the enormous protest demonstrations there are bound to be, just for TMay’s benefit. As well as being intensely unpleasant and awkward anyway.
That's why I said it was a Getty image, POGS. It's by Christopher Furlong, one of their usual photographers. I knew somebody would argue about it.
If I were the Queen, I would plead a bad cold after Trump arrives so he has to be greeted by Charles. Have signed it, by the way. It already has over a hundred thousand signatures, so due for a debate in parliament. Be good to see it get over a million.
Petition signed toomuchcouchgrass. I'd actually like to ban him altogether, but at least let's prevent him from getting what he really wants - lots of pomp and circumstance and a visit to Buckingham Palace.
Thanks for the link Toomuchcouchgrass I have signed, even though I think the Queen could probably cope. I suspect though she would rather not. One of her more arduous duties. The China visit was a challenge.
I'm afraid I don't feel sorry for Teresa May for several reasons. 1. It's her job as PM to make links with other Leaders. 2. She wasn't voted in as PM and she agreed to stand for PM position so it was her own choice. 3. She could resign if the job isn't up to her liking. 4. She's making a mistake in my opinion to offer the NHS to Trump as some sort of desperate trading deal. The NHS is ours, the people's and she mustn't let it go without consulting us first! 5. I don't think she should be consorting with dictators! Bad move on her behalf to fly from US to Turkey to get post Brexit deals!
If Trump does not need to worry about the size of the crowd at the inauguration why were there so many 'alternative truths' about it by him and his supporters? Why not say my supporters could not make it because they are all too poor to travel or not members of church communities etc?? You would have thought that the Republican Party would have provided busses!
I am aware of the issues he is tapping into to maintain control. I understand the need not to make all sections of society feel enfranchised/ heard etc. If I thought for one moment Trump cared an iota for all those people who feel ignored and unrepresented I might muster some positive thoughts about him.
He is a child of a multimillionaire not a poor boy made good!
Has anyone linked to the petition against Trump’s state visit? petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171928 “Donald Trump should be allowed to enter the UK in his capacity as head of the US Government, but he should not be invited to make an official State Visit because it would cause embarrassment to Her Majesty the Queen.” It’s growing fast.
Only last year Trump blamed the Saudis for 9/11. They should be on the list. He has begun deals with the Saudi royal family since 9/11. He is a hypocrite.
We do not need to do deals with him. We will lose more status in the world by continuing with this line of special relationship. We will be laughed at.
