It was my attempt at a joke daphnedill, I don't think he went there really (perhaps he couldn't find it on the map).

The Express and Star may well be a newspaper of choice in the Midlands, I'm not sure what stance they have taken on UKIP and Nuttall.

varian I agree with you that in some ways white lies and CV embellishments don't matter. It didn't seem to dent support for Andrea Leadsom and Iain Duncan Smith became a cabinet minister, even after his lies on his CV were discovered.

Nuttall's huge mistake was to mention Hillsborough. Not only was it a tragedy, but the 29 years fighting the 'establishment' for justice is something the survivors quite rightly feel proud about. These are the kind of people UKIP claims to represent, but they did it themselves - without UKIP's help. Nuttall tried to claim that he was 'one of them' and latched on to the grief. People see that as worse than lying about having a PhD.

Having said that, I do think it's a shame that politics seems to be more about personalities than policies. UKIP changes its policies at a drop of a hat to suit the latest headlines in the Express and the Mail. They don't have an economic and industrial policy. People really need to ask themselves what good Nuttall (and UKIP) would do for Stoke and I wish it hadn't come down to a character assassination.

We're seeing the same with Blair and people who claimed they voted Leave because they couldn't stand the toffee-nosed Cameron and Osborne.

Nuttall has just missed another hustings in Stoke. That's two weeks in a row.

You are very welcome to defend Stoke Juliette I have and had no intention of denigrating it so where Anniebach gets her "nasty post" from I have no idea.

Sorry, I was trying, and clearly failing, to have a go at Paul Nuttall who seemed to me at any rate to have chosen Stoke (pin in a map?) for his own purposes rather than from any notion of public service. Have I insulted the people of Stoke by saying Inwould not blame them for rejecting both Nuttall and Snell ? I hope not. If the area is to prosper it will need an MP who has his constituents' interests at heart, not his own.
Actually I do know where Stoke is, my father's cousin married a man from near Stoke back in the 40's although I only visited them as a small child. The Potteries are(is?) an area I would love to visit if ever DH's health permits us to get away even for a few days.
But perhaps you would explain why you felt it necessary to have a dig at Milton Keynes and/or a dig at me ? (Actually I don't live in Milton Keynes, but so what? )

Does it even matter whether Paul Nuttall lied about being at Hillsborough, being aprofessional footballer, having a PhD or living in this house he'd never been in when he filled in his application form?

Farage has leapt to Nuttall's defence:

"Oh yes. For years the Labour party have tried to keep him out of the whole Hillsborough debate purely for party political reasons. He has tried in the past to join the various groups and he has literally been excluded from them."

Unfortunately, Margaret Aspinall, Chair of the Hillsborough Families Support Group, was incredulous:

"They’ve said what?! We have never, ever – and I mean ever – heard from Paul Nuttall. We’re not a group he could ‘join’ anyway – you have to have lost a family member at Hillsborough. So clearly Mr Farage has no idea what he’s talking about and we will not have him casting aspersions on us or our families."

Meanwhile Kenny Derbyshire, Chairman of the Hillsborough Justice Campaign, was angry but not surprised:

"Paul Nuttall and Nigel Farage are talking absolute nonsense. We have never heard from him, not even once and if they’re trying to claim they’ve been blocked from joining us they’re just trying to cover up one lie with another. How dare he – we’ve never thought much of him and this just confirms our opinion."

OK I think,he is delusional, and clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer as it is not very bright to make a load of false "claims to fame "which can do easily be checked and discounted. Walter Mitty was rather better st it.
If he really is the best UKIP can come up with it shows a total paucity of valid wannabe politicians in their ranks and is frankly amounting to an insult to the intelligence of the voters of Stoke.

Even more so to bang on about Milton Keynes with which it is neither twinned or, to my knowledge, connected in any other way. Who is Dapne Brawn and does Juliette expect brownie points an honorary A* in GCSE Geography for knowing where Milton Keynes is? (About 50 miles up the M1 going North from London if anybody needs that nugget for their GCSE coursework) As it has just celebrated 50 years since the first diggers got digging and featured on the national news, I can't say that gem of geographical knowledge impresses me much.

There are not one but two Universities, museums, Trentham nearby, Wedgewood, theatres (one in the round) - ever heard of Arnold Bennett? - on the edge of the Peak District, Mow Cop, Emma Bridgewater, oat cakes etc etc!!
