In fact lots of lines were closed, so nobody could pootle around.
My nearest station is six miles away, and it would cost me to park, then £5 to go from there to Durham or Newcastle, and the same to get back.
So obie was wrong about it being cheap.
She was right about it being wildly expensive at peak times, commuting routes and near London, and that's what you know as well as the rest of us.

Catch a bus for 20 miles to get to a station Jen ? No. We are very dependant on cars here

I've recorded it for my grandson, and bought him the book and the map from the OU.
He's always been interested in trains and railways, although he does tend to flummox people when he says he prefers diesel to steam. It's something to do with the shape of their noses, which puzzles people even more. I understand, of course!

One of the programmes shows the Elephant engine at Beamish. Passengers sit on hard wooden seats. Fortunately only for five minutes!

There's fantastic scenery going up to Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Unfortunately, the trains are crowded and expensive.
Are Swiss trains owned by the people, or by private companies that want to make a profit before anything else?

There are a lot of people on here who do the same but I have refrained from saying so.
Are you saying they are all thick, jingl?
There are even people who misspell names all the time. That seems quite thick to me, especially when the correct spelling is pointed out to them.

Niggly I know what you mean about continental trains, Swiss railways are clean, on time, and fantastic scenery as well.
