Is EU the new North Korea

Maybe a little extreme title however since the notification of the imminent defection of one of its own (Uk), it's disturbing to hear how we are to be punished for thus and measures are being taken to prevent any other disaffected country (of which there are quite a few) doing the same. What sort of union is this? Apart from North Korea, the PR China of the Mao era come to mind.
