Joelsnan it's not necessarily about personalities, for me it is about the political beliefs of the person. One of the reasons why I voted to remain is the group of MPs at the core of the campaign i.e. Gove, Hunt, Duncan Smith, Grayling, Fox and Patel. These MPs are far too right wing for me, so that was a factor in my decision.

Joelsnan we vote for our European Parliament members every 5 years.

We may well do so but our MEPs are very small fish within a vast pond and an analogy would be the Eurovision Song Contest. We pay the largest amount into this event but are treated with derision by a large number of the countries contesting. We are only half in anyway having wisely declined on the Euro and Shenghen, decisions made by our own democratically elected government.

Voting to remain in just because you consider these people's opinion is right wing is exactly what I am talking about. We have a democratically elected parliament which is not suddenly going to disappear and be replaced by right wing activists on Friday should we vote to leave. Our parliament will still operate as always, with the electorate ultimately having the final say.

Couldn't agree more.

This referendum should rise above partisan politics and personalities . Yet it is everywhere you look. We could all say he said, she said to put a spin on things to shape them to align with our view. I am not innocent of doing so myself when I get fed up of the pendulum swinging in one direction disengenuously.

Some people are happily lying in bed with some strange bed fellows and the hypocrisy is almost laughable at times.

Sorry, Joelsnan but I completely disagree with you on both counts. The UK is in the Big 3 in the EU, along with France and Germany. If we vote to leave the EU, the Tory party will go through a reorganisation as it comes back together again. I think there's a strong chance that this will mean the party will move more towards the right. As someone who didn't vote for this Tory government, that's the last thing I want to happen. Democracy in action.

I too did not vote this government in but have faith in the British people to ensure that democracy prevails.

POGS just to add I decided to vote Remain independently of party politics. I also said that certain MPs in the Leave camp were one of the reasons I chose to vote Remain. It was one of three reasons, the other two being maintaining peace and protection of our rights.

I am a floating voter at general elections and am voting remain after lots of thinking about all aspects.

Whilst there is a wry smile at the mischievous thought in the OP I don't feel any humour in the prospect of what will come to fruition should we have a majority vote to stay in.

I shudder at the thought of "better the devil you know" because you really don't know what will happen once we are tied down and have no prospect of escape ever again. Once the referendum is done and if the 'remain in the shackles' is the verdict then, and only then, will the huge bills start to come rolling in. Who do you think is going to pay the bills for all the countries unable to pay them? We will, or rather it will be our children and grandchildren - that is who! If you care anything for their futures give it back to them so that they can work for themselves and not the faceless bureaucrats on the gravy train. Voting for our own government means that we can vote them out again but voting to remain in the EU means shackled for ever! This is our last chance to be Independent and free.

I didn't realise we were intending to take over the world! I don't think even Boris Johnson haso got that in mind.

Synonymous it's your children and grandchildren who will have to live through the economic turmoil leaving will bring. Maybe your great or great great grandchildren will be grateful.

I've been keeping a list of the threats and 'promises' each side have been making. It will be interesting to see how many threats come about and promises are kept whoever wins.

I don't think the Eurovision Song Contest has that much to do with actually being in Europe. It's something to do with being in the European Broadcasting Area, and other complexities!

Unfortunately, even if we voted out, since Australia and Israel compete I can see us staying in the Eurovision Song Contest - especially since we fork out so much money to support it. Now there's something I would have voted out for....

Talking of the amount each country pays to the EU are we saying just the total net figure or the amount per capita for each country - makes a huge difference and the per capita amount is the fairest. Look at the pi chart in the centre to see the proportion of the national budget the EU costs UK. The UK pays much less than many countries - hardly a cash cow.

Surely the opposite is true to Synonyms post which says if we remain we nevet get the chance to leave again. If we vote remain, we have a right to ask parliament for another referendum later. If we vote out, we only rejoin if the other countries allow us. Im for remain
