Hurray for a light hearted thread on a serious subject. Even Shakespeare's tragedies had interludes inserted where the comic peasants cracked a few jokes between the murders and treason. It gave the audience a chance to de-stress for a few minutes before diving back into the mayhem.

What a pity it is not yet possible to make a documentary in the future and beam it back in time to Iplayer. We could view the consequences of alternative results and adjust our vote accordingly. As it is we can only read guesses and predictions from people who know no more than we do (and some of the more emphatic predictors know damn-all)

To answer your question, Jings, I think that whatever side wins, they'll be exhilarated, celebrate for a few days, then start to wonder, "so what do we do now?"

If leave win and Parliament won't pass it, then the government can't invoke it? Have I got this right? because if so, why on earth are we having this referendum?!! Why not just have a commons vote in the first place, saving both money and dreadful grief in every sense of the word!!!

Thank you TriciaF, so potentially all this commotion including the murder of an MP could have been avoided. For once I'm speechless! Will I bother to vote having just completely lost interest? probably not, best just to let it go and save more unpleasantness.

They won't pass it, will they, who posted the number of MPs for remain and MPs for brexit on another thread - can't remember but it was overwhelmingly for remain.

No, parliament will never pass it, so let's hope remain win and save any more anguish. The death of an MP has been a heavy price to pay for an exercise in public relations if that's what this is, never mind the financial cost, families at war with each other over it, and the ill temper on Gransnet. The ayes have it one way or the other!

If Brexit wins, and the government refuses to implement- then I truly fear for rhe consequences. EDL and Britain First would go berserk- and I just can't, or don't want to imagine consequences
