Father looks distraught. What a week for parenting, this happening at the same time as the gorilla tragedy.

He sounds a right handful. I'll bet he was hiding when his parents came back and watched them panic.

What a week for bad parenting At least this one has a happy ending.

I think that they may be prosecuted for dumping him there as a punishment.

The parents don't deserve to have the boy returned to them though.

The boy was being naughty, throwing stones at people and cars so dad lost the plot and left him beside the road - he then returned a short time later expecting the boy to have waited for someone to come back for him. Definitely an over the top reaction and I don't condone it for one second, but I can easily imagine it happening. What ensued must have been terrifying for both the boy and his family - and in political parlance, lessons must be learned, but I suspect that both dad and boy have been sobered by the events and neither will do any such thing again.

It's the sort of thing my SiL's parents would have done and I'm sure he's been tempted at times. Imagine the feeling when they came back and found him gone though!

A very resourceful little boy.Looking at overhead photos shows the vastness and density of the forest,it is pure chance that this child took the route to shelter.The outcome could so easily have been tragic.Hopefully,the parents have been the jolt they deserve.

Parents in the Far East are much stricter than here in the West, but this was definitely way over the top and could have been fatal. I daresay lessons have been learnt!

They should not let the parents get off scot free on that. I feel there is more behind this story.

He was a total brat.

We once dumped our son when he wouldn't stop biting his sister. We only drove around the corner then reversed back but he never bit her again (in or out of the car).

I expect the parents were doing the same thing but, as someone else said, the little beggar was hiding and it backfired on them all.

That said I'm glad he was found safe but I don't think the parents should be pilloried.

Dreadful, dangerous and emotionally abusive thing to do to a 7 year old, as well as being an ineffective way of changing his behaviour. This incident is likely to reflect both the boy's behaviour and his parents way of dealing with it, so all is not well in the family is it. The boy is said to have been calm when he was found. I felt the father's attempts to weep weren't genuine either. I'm not suggesting he wasn't hugely relived that his son was found safe and well, nor that he regretted the actions in leaving the boy, more that the emotional life of this family is the real issue.

I can understand the parents actions, how many of us have walked away from a hysterical child, unfortunately this couple went a little too far and it all went wrong.

He looks a right little brat. Sorry but if one of mine threw stones at cars and people he would have had a damned good hiding, but then again none of mine would have dared or wanted to do that in front of me.

We all think our children are perfect but mine got up to some right stuff when they were playing out of sight with their friends.
