The good thing about the Amsterdam model apart from the advantages outlined by TinaF1 is that it is confined to a specific area. You would only go there if you intended to, it does not overflow into residential areas.
Even squeaky clean cities like Singapore have recognised red light districts, in fact the Singapore district is all red lights !.
I also agree that this discussion is not about us or our nearest & dearest following the profession, but about those that do for whatever reason, and their protection.
