Obama speech in Kenya

They are so very lucky to have him. He's a vanishingly rare politician and statesman. He's single handedly doing more to restore faith in the USA as decent people after so many of us only see the "thick, racist, far right nutters" mentioned above. What a guy!

We just don't understand the level of subconscious racism in America. I genuinely don't think many of them realise they are doing it. Take American drama - often they ensure that romantic interests for the characters, are of the same race. They do show mixed race relationships, but race can then become an integral issue of the plot, unlike in British drama where race/colour is often random and no big deal.

The disrespect shown to Obama and Michele from certain quarters is horrible.

Those tea partiers are unbelievable - thick, racist, far right nutters. But with power and money. I would hang my head in shame if I were a Republican. Except of course I'd be a Democrat.

We were actually told by American Republican relatives that Obama is an Al-Quaida plant. We were so shocked so we laughed and said 'come on now, stop jesting, you don't really believe THAT do you?' and the reply came thick and fast 'you bet he is- and that bitch Michèle too'. Wow- and that was just the start! And they are from NJ not the deep South either.

Oh yes - the 'birther' thing was just a cover for 'a black man has no right to be in the White House'.

Funny how the insane Right back Trump and denigrate Obama.

So much goes on over there that I'll never understand, but I'm glad Obama is being such a statesman in Kenya and at home.

I'm also an admirer of Obama. It's difficult not to see the venom directed at him by the American right, especially the tea party shower, as a form of racism. I accept they don't like democrats but the nastiness about Obama definitely has racist overtones. (imo)

The venom shown to him and his family, especially his wife- by Republicans especially those on the very right, 'tea party' types, is just shocking. We've met many, some relatives, who've made it clear they would rather scupper the country than see him survive.

Well done him for talking about the education of women being the key to long-term success, and getting rid of the culture of privilege and bribery- very brave. i trule love and admire that man.

So do I.
Yet many Americans truly hate him.
I think he understands the real world of everyday people, unlike many of the top pollies there, who have only ever known the world of privilege.
As for his speech in Kenya - he was polite, positive and uncompromising.

I find the more I hear Obama speak the more I admire the man, he always manages to get to the crux of things and state his position clearly without appearing to cause offence.. I like him a lot.
