Poor old Charles he was such a shy lad. Given his position in society I get the impression he would have been far happier just being a gardener and a private person. He has made some dreadful choices but it's good he does now seem very happy with Camilla.

It's a pity that the stuffiness of the Royals when he was in his 20s possibly prevented him from the path he would have liked, but he should never have led Diana Spencer on and married her. He was the one with the power, she was too young and too naive to get what he was about.

It probably did not help her confidence and self esteem that she appeared to have been the butt of family jokes, they referred to her as "Brian" the rather dim snail in the Magic roundabout.

But how many of us have done things we now regret.

I heard on world sevice just after it happened that there had been an accident. I was on our yacht in Jersey St Helier marina and couldn't sleep.

Charles had spent most of his life as heir to the throne and been trained accordingly. He may end up having a very short reign or he may even predecease the Queen but I don't think William has any desire to become King until he has to.

I think that Charles's PR team has done a great job.

Very few I guess, but generally it's been so in the Royal family for centuries - he could have bucked the trend if it wasn't for such domineering women like the Queen and QM.

The sad truth is Charles should have married Camilla 40 years ago. But, what's done is done and it seems that HRH has finally settled down into old age with a woman who makes him happy. They now look a handsome, happy couple enjoying their public duties.... all thanks to her.

Too many meddling family members and courtiers in the 1970's for them to get married then. loopylou she wasn't married when they first started 'going out' then. Charles got sent away as she wasn't thought suitable for him.

And how many of us would be happy with an 'arranged marriage'?
